View Full Version : Anyone else think Val should consider a red shirt year?

I think with Jessica and Angela (of course Dionne), it might be to Val's advantage to red shirt this year. I think her surgery set her back in conditioning and development. A year of red shirt could help in these areas if she is really serious. Anyone else thinking along these lines?

I don't think it is a consideration by her or Flan. They talked about it last year and Flan said it was up to the player - she played. Val will be quite valuable later in the season when her conditioning should catch up. The LL will encounter some very tall players in conference and in the tournaments. Having her will provide some needed relief for our shortish post players. She will significantly impact at least a couple of games this year.

Have you noticed that most of the time when the subject of red shirting comes up that most of the women players choose not to? I think that bball is important to them, but they have so many other priorities that I don't think they are focused as much as the men on developing for pro ball, etc. Just a thought.

The only advantage for the women to red-shirt is getting a 5th year of education for a Master's Degree; and as smart as these ladies are, some of them don't need the 5th year :D.

I am confident that Val will work hard and will contribute come conference time. The added competition on the team will only help her.

That question was asked of coach Flan (the son) at the first coaches talk before the exibition game. He said the coaches talked about it with Val, and they came to the conclusion that it would be better is she did not redshirt. One of the reasons was, we have a jr, a soph, and two freshman posts now. If Val redshirted, we would have, for all intents and purposes, a Jr and three freshmen.

I'll be there tonight along with 10,000 (hopefully) crazy LL fans. I'll try to put a report together. If not, I'll do something to sum up the tournament on Sunday.

The possibility of redshirting is moot. She played in the exhibition games, and that disqualifies her from redshirting.

Is that for sure Dr.? I thought it was any regular season game. It is for sure moot now, as she played last night, but I thought exhibition did not prohibit one from a red shirt year.

Val will be an important player for this team, this year. She is the one and only player that can effectively post up on the "low" block at this point in time.

The other concern, again Angela had 4 quick fouls in only 15 minutes. From that perspective, how would it have made any sense to redshirt Val when your only experienced post player is prone to picking up quick fouls?

I'm glad they decided "mutually" or otherwise to have all the players play this year. I'm guessing in at least one or more games every player will have one of those "oustanding" games that help lead us to victory.

Let's go take it to Dayton tonight!

That's always been the rule: exhibition or regular season game play will result in loss of one year eligibility. I haven't heard that this rule has been changed.
