BYU not representing MWC very well against UConn.

Thanks for the update. Hard to imagine how BYU would win this one, but I was hoping they would hang tough.

We've been on the hurting side of losses like this and still competed very well in conference. On the womens' side of things, there is sometimes a large gap between the elite and the fringe teams. Parity hasn't crept in the way it has on the mens' side of things.

I knew they were going to get trounced (even said so in another thread) -- However, not by that much .... HIJOLE!!! That was not a good representation of themselves or the conference!!! :box

Yep, we have, but usually, when we got to the NCAA's on those years, we were one and done. It's a pretty good indicator of how competitive a team is against NCAA caliber teams, and BYU right now got knocked around a little bit.

I guess those UConn blue chippers showed why they're blue chippers?

I think we're both saying the same thing. Gap between fringe teams and elite teams = getting knocked around by an elite team is a good indicator of not quite being ready for the challenges at the tournament level.

The point I'm making is that just because of a 50 point L to UCONN, we shouldn't expect anything less than a competitive game from BYU until/unless there are additional indicators there is something wrong with the ship up in Provo.

Well, a 3-3 start is pretty unusual for them. Not sure if that says there more of a middle of the pack team this year than in years past? Based on their so-so start, I can't see them being one of the teams that advances to the NCAA's this year. TCU has also been a bit disappointing.

With that said, can both teams turn it on and get better at conference time? yes. I won't count on either winning the title this year though. Right now, Wyoming, UNM and Utah look to be the best teams so far.

Don't rule out SDSU. They are off to a 5-1 start and should be improved this year as well.
