Hobson heads to junior college
September 05, 2007

Peripatetic Darrington Hobson has found a home. It's not Pepperdine, the first school he committed to in the recruiting process. It's not UNM, the school he signed with during the recruiting process. It's not UNLV, the school where it was rumored he would magically walk on after the NCAA Clearinghouse wouldn't approve his paperwork.

Hobson is enrolled at College of Eastern Utah, where he will be playing on the same team as his cousin. Once he gets started with classes, he has to complete his associate's degree before he can transfer to a Division I school. It typically takes two years to complete the degree.

Finally...it's good to get some closure to the whole "Is he coming, Isn't he coming?" mini drama. Time to move on.

Best of luck, Darrington. Maybe the Lobos will be in your future later.

2 years - I'd say the odds are 1 in 10 that we see him here in 2 years.

I agree it'll be tough to beat out guys like Watford and DJ Richardson for schollies.

It's pretty hard to feel sorry for a guy that all he had to do was turn his paperwork in on time to be able to play Division I basketball, and instead drops the ball and is forced to go the Juco route, almost out of sheer laziness. Best of luck to Darrington, but he is going to have to get his head screwed on straight. Hopefully, this does it for him.

I couldn't agree more, LaVidaLobo. Pretty inexcusable even if he is just a kid.

There's a fine line where a kid blurs into young adulthood... and some kids make the transitions seamlessly and other wallow in that murk between those states for a while.

Of course, some never make it out.

Kidding aside, I find it easy to place blame on kids/young man whose conduct is detrimental to my team, as do alot of fans, I think. The rose colored glasses make this process easy.

In this case, however, I think I can set aside my bias-abetting glasses and make a fairly blunt, accurate statement. This kid blew it.
