From their stats page – I haven’t seen them play
Last night against Indiana
* two guards – Ahelegbe and Moran – had about 35 minutes each and scored 39 points of UNI’s 67 between them. Five other players logged 18 minutes or more, and one other had 10. So I guess we can say they go 8 deep. Moran was deadly from 3 points land (4 of 6), and Koch was also very good (3 of 5).
*They shot free throws well. They do have a pattern of food free throw shooting, but even after last night’s game, where they went over 40% from 3, the are barely over 30% from there on the season. Moran, Koch and James are the only ones with decent 3 pt % - just under 40% down to .355.
Ahelegbe is their leading scorer, but he’s not a good shooter. 37% FG and below 25% from downtown. He has attempted 40 FTs, or about 4 a game. Their assist to TO ratio is less than 1.0 (UNM’s is 1.25).
The two scorers might be tired, but I don’t think anybody else will have endurance problems. They appear to make their living at the foul line and on defense. If the Lobos can play decent defense and exhibit some patience on offense, they should win. I don’t look for a repeat of the turnover problem – I don’t think the Panthers attempt to pressure the ball as much.
Close until the two leading scores tire, when the Lobos start to pull away. Unknowns – the refs, how each team does from 3 pt land, and the Lobos free throw shooting.
