Here is the list of the top ten freshman scorers for the Lobos based on ppg.

Most of the players were guards who started as freshman. For four years in a row, UNM had a top notch freshman starter who made this list. it started with Charles Smith, who was followed by Clayton Shields, Kenny Thomas and Lamont Long.

Luc did not get serious minutes until the second half of the second NMSU game his Freshman season. I remember Bliss putting Luc in for Loeffel and leaving him in, and I was outraged at the time because it was a tight game in the Pan Am center and I felt that was not the time to make this kind of move. Man, I was wrong. The Lobos, who had been down a few points, came back to win in the Pan Am center. The Aggie fans I was sitting with were PO'd to the max.

Thanks for the info Walkon. However, do you know the list for total points they scored in their freshman year? Only reason I ask is, I'm assuming, ppg is based on the number of games they played in, correct? Some didn't start right away; unlike Kendall. Just curious.

I thought Kenny missed the fall semester one year? Was it his soph year? If not, which year?

He missed the first semester of his senior year.

That was the penalty he had to pay for his parents suing the NCAA and getting an injunction allowing him to play the first 3 years. It was an NCAA imposed penalty. Had to do with one core class at his El Paso high school that he was told would count toward his eligibility. After it was too late to make the class up in summer school, the NCAA ruled the class did not meet their standards. And people wonder why I hate the chicken bleep NCAA.
