with regards to PM's recruitment.

First, it knew the fans who came to an open scrimmage would be hardcore. It didn't matter that, in Rick's estimation, there were only a couple of hundred people there. They banked on the people that came knowing who McDonald was and that they would show him some love. We passed that test with flying colors.

Second, going out for a follow-up home visit was absolute genius. They went to address any questions, and their agenda was to secure a commitment if at all possible. As Rick stated, Monday's interview with Stig sure seems as if he already knew he was coming, at least in hindsight. Still, send the coaches to get the verbal on the heels of an upbeat visit. Nice call, coaches!

Great post, Bloo. I've been impressed with the way this coaching staff has approached this entire process.

I think that move in itself shows the difference between how this coaching staff works compared to the way the Mckay recruited. This staff is high profile, goes for the upper level player and can recruit with the top teams in the country. I think if Alford finds success early it will only create a firestorm of good players wanting to come to New Mexico. This could be another Arizona blooming in the Southwest. That would be too much to handle :blowup

The home visit followup was big. It seems like whenever we've been in the hunt for a top prospect, if they don't commit during or shortly after their official visit and go on other trips, we lose out. Things apparently really clicked for PM, and I think that the fans on this board and the ones that showed up at the scrimmage contributed to helping him feel comfortable.

I really think the scrimmage did it. Bloo's cheer put a big smile on both Curtis's and Phillip's faces. We may have been small, but we were vocal! That pushed it over the edge. Phillip saw how much he was wanted here.
