Very nice article RPS!!! You da' man.

I've got two concerns at this time:

A. Does this mean we are no longer recruiting J'Covan?
B. Does this mean I can't give Bloo credit for helping us land the latest recruit? Bloo will take this hard.

1. We are finished with recruiting.

2.Yes, he will take it hard!

We are finished with recruiting :blowup

Also will he be eligible to play this December? Or do we intend to wait till next season before playing him? Did Nate indicate either way?

Nice work again RPS. It's something special what the coaching staff is doing here. They are absolutely shattering the myth that big time recruits won't come to UNM. Major kudo's to them.

J'Covans ride was lost when McDonald signed. That ride was between them two. The last and final was going to go for a point guard regardless not a combo guard like J'Covan was. Watson was also going to come in on a visit but you can scratch that now that we signed Garth. Maybe that pushed him into signing.

No, you can give us fans credit. Didn't anybody read the article where he talked about our great fan support? You don't think that didn't come from Philly or Curtis either directly or indirectly?

REP me, please! :horn):bighug:>

Welcome to the Lobo Program! :bighug

Here's wishing the most success to you both on and off the court. :D

We are definitely salivating at the prospects of our entire 2008 class playing together and dominating not only the MWC, but making a splash nationally and getting back to the Top 25, where UNM has not been in awhile.

¡Bienvenido a la Universidad de Nuevo México!

Nice catch on correcting the plural form of "welcome" that you used the first time Kent. I noticed it, but I didn't want to hurt your feelings by calling it out. I know you're a sensitive guy.

Thinking about the fact that we now have (pending all the usuals like signing and qualifying) a pure point guard, Nate Garth, rather than J’Coven Brown (assuming he would have signed) made me again think about player and class rankings. The uncertainty and subjectivity of these rankings has been talked about at great length and I won’t rehash that here. [jubilation ensues]

But this made me think again about the players are not "good, better, best" in a vacuum. In some abstract sense, Brown may be “better” than Garth. Maybe he could take Garth one-on-one (or maybe not) but that has little to do with the real question, which is which one will add more to the Lobos a team. I think that Garth may be the one who does.

What the Lobos need is help at point guard, starting in 2008-09. We have one true point on the team, until Garth enrolls. Brown, however, is a combo guard, some of whose skills are better suited to the off guard position. But we will be loaded there, with McDonald and Willis and Dennis. Significant playing time for Brown would have to come at the expense of one of those. In short, I think we could likely have ended up in an overkill situation. (Sort of the reverse of having to carry seven pounds of $Hi+ in a five pound sack.) Some of those resources would be wasted. That’s why I think that Garth may end up adding more to the team.

In addition, with only Gary as the point and two combo guards as back-up, we would be much more vulnerable to injury, suspension, foul problems or whatever.

This may be nothing more than an attempt to make a virtue out of a necessity, but I had been wondering about our point situation, and this appears to deal with it quite well.

And Garth would have been the outstanding recruit under a McKay régime. We may be in the process of getting spoiled. (Please, let it happen!)

I agree, Judas. I had mentioned that we needed a point guard and, even though Brown was the "higher rated", Nathan met our needs much better. Good get.

Excellent post, JP!

And I keep thinking about how the SF position must look SOOO inviting to Christian Watford in '09...
