View Full Version : Joe Six Pack Warms to the Lobo's
I took my car into the shop yesterday and I took the city Bus back home. I sat up front near the Bus Driver. I noticed he was reading the sports page at the stop where he picked me up. He made some comment about the Lobo's and some of the new recruits we had picked up. He said he used to attend games a lot back in the old days going back to the time of Michael Cooper. But lately he hadn't gone to games because he felt we weren't fielding competitive teams. He said that he was very impressed with SA and the quality of recruits we were bringing in and that he was going to start going to games again this year after a long hiatus. You could sense the excitement in the guys voice when he talked about the program.
It was great to hear an average guy on the street talking about the Lobo's program. This kind of stuff bodes well for our team this year. People are excited for the program again. Are you guys picking up the same vibes out there? By the way, I would have given this guy the link to the Lobolair website, but if he's like RPS, our roads wouldn't be safe with a 10 ton bus rolling erratically down the road.
At the tailgate we were talking about how this past week and next few weeks are the dead period when there isn't much going on. The recruiting class has been secured (quite early by our standards) and practice hasn't yet begun. And we're posting onto existing threads that are a week old in some instances. No new threads popping up.

That's great ROOBs. We know the word is getting out despite our sports reporting, not Iliana. I hope to see a FULL PIT again, soooo loud, the old days,ay ay ay.
GO LOBOS!!!!!!!!!!
GO LOBO FANS!!!!!!!!!!!
Makes me glad I don't ride the bus. He's drinking and reading the newspaper as he drives. Good move to keep him away from texting. The little icon below is the driver taking his sobriety test.

:Afun) In defense of the bus driver, he was catching a quick read while waiting at the bus stop. I would have bailed out of the bus if he had been reading and driving, though I generally support all literacy programs.
The bus driver was actually a nice guy. I was the only person on board at the end ($1 fee to ride city buses all day, for those of you who've never done it) and he offered to drop me off closer to my destination than the specificed drop off point. I'd better stop, I may get the poor guy in trouble for being so customer oriented.

Great, Roob. I have picked up enthusiasm from people that really don't know much about the Lobos, but have heard of Alford. If we can field an exciting team this year, our average attendance will go way above last year's.
I hear it out there, too! Good thread... rep to you all!

I think attendance picks up this year and keeps going again into the future, finally . Even people down here with UNM connections are talking, and yes there are a few.

I was several states away last week with some college sports fans who I've known for years -- we typically trade stories about the schools we follow, and the big national stories (Notre Dame this year). When asked how Richie McKay was doing, I told them we had a new coach, -- they were rather calm -- more or less "about time". When they asked who the new coach was, and I replied, everyone remembered the hire and the level of interest got extremely high. Told them about the recruiting progress -- could see they were more than a tad nervous that something big could happen at UNM.

I had an opportunity to chat with Sam Alford and one of the questions he asked me was, "do you think the attendance will improve this year?" I boldly replied, I guarantee it!
geezer gets my vote for mayor!

Can you know the mighty ocean? Can you lasso a star from the sky? Can you say to a rainbow 'Hey, stop being a rainbow for a second'? No! Such is geezer! :Afun)
