View Full Version : Rockies look for sweep tonight
I thought Clint Hurdle was a bit premature in pulling his starting pitcher Morales tonight int he 4th inning, down 1-0. Of course the pinch hitter flared one over the 3rd basemen's head for a 2 run double. Hurdle and the Rockies are charmed right now. Everything they touch turns to gold.

Six runs later, with 20/20 hindsight, I would say he made the right choice! Looks like the Rox will sweep. They are a team of destiny. Still five innings to go, but the Rockies just have the look and swagger to them. They will win the world series.
Hurdle is a freakin' genius. Rockies explode for 6 runs and the inning isn't even over. Micah Owings is dazed and confused as he comes out of the game. This may be the thing that finally pushes him to become a position player. Well at least I won't have to stay up till 1:00 am tonight.

It's over. This D-Backs team just cannot match the roll the Rockies are on. I've never seen a team get so many breaks go there way. It's truly reminisant of a "Team Of Destiny".

Micah is young and he'll bounce back. You should see his competitve drive...the kid's a player. He's in awe of what's going on.

It just wasn't meant to be for the D'Backs. Seems like every break goes in favor of the Rockies - they are preordained to win everything this year. Pretty incredible.
D'Backs still have 5 innings to get 5 runs back - not impossible in this park.

The D-Backs haven't shown they can score more than one run consistantly. The Rockies are getting a lot of breaks...good teams have good fortune as well. The D-Backs and Rockies I'm sure will be fighting it out for world Series for years to come!

Baseball is funny. A team that looks so good and thinks they will be getting other chances to go to the series can end up not getting another sniff for years. It is much harder to win consistently in baseball than any other sport, I think. Free agent rules, injuries, slumps...baseball is a crazy sport.
The Rox could sweep all the way to the WS title and finish last in the division next year.

It seems like different teams step up every year. The only constants in the post-season are the Yankees and Bosox and until recently, the Braves. Other than that it's other teams putting together magical seasons that that they can't sustain over multiple seasons, i.e., White Sox. Both the Rox and D'Backs have some great young pitchers, but you never know how many will stay healthy next year or will stay on the same, high performance level.

The talent the D-Backs have are all signed for at least 6 more years. The talent we have like Upton, Young, Jackson, Reynolds, Hudson (Who's Injuried), Drew will be back. Besides the D-Backs have one of the better GM'S in the league...Josh Byrnes won't rest on the success the D-Backs will be a force to be reckoned with! I've seen a lot of these kids play in Tucson for the SideWinders...and I would agree with the free-agency day in age. But the D-Backs will compete for the Divison title and the world series every year. All the young pitchers...outfielders..catchers...and infielders aren't going anywhere...not to mention there's so much more talent down in the minors. Just like the Rockies are.

The D-Backs farm system and have a lot of prospects who could play in the Majors already. Injuries happen but the D-Backs have a good front office who have done a great job. At the beginning of the year the D-Backs weren't even expected to be where they're at and he we are. Nothing suprises me with this team. The Red Sox and Yankess have great management..so do the D-Backs. Josh Brynes has turned them into a winner in two years. The difference being the D-Backs have an outstanding Farm System which if you've ever seen guys like Carlos Gonzalez or others play the D-Backs will be fine!

Roob is right. Are the Rox as good as they are playing right now? I don't think so. There are so many factors including slumps and injuries. That is what I love about baseball. You never know who is going to have one of those seasons. If this game was won on talent alone, the Yanks would win it every year.
Sorry Yakka. Rick and I are on the same page. You're outnumbered 2 to 1 on this one. We're both of the opinion that the great, young teams in baseball that appear ready to dominate for years are just an illusion. Detroit Tigers had their magical run. White Sox had their magical run. Angels went crazy one year. Lots of teams have a great season and then they disappear. Take the Rockies. At mid-season they were floundering. Then they picked up 3 new starters (Jimenez and Morales are a couple of them) and the go on fire. But the opposite can happen as well. One day you're sitting on Eric "the Great" Gagne. The next day you're sitting on Eric "Dogsh*t" Gagne. It's just strange sport that way. Too hard to predict sustained success just cause you have a bunch of young players.

It's all Good. I've seen this team play a lot not just on Television. The kind of talent the D-Backs have hasn't even reached it's peak...I guess it's because I've a lot of the Minor leaguers play. This team will be competitve for years to come. Even Bob Brenly said "The D-Backs are force to be reckoned with". People in baseball have said it all year. They'll be back...if you don't believe it watch them next year! All the young kids have improved every year...the D-Backs have a deep farm system. Besides Byrnes, Hudson, Levo and Randy Johnson the rest are home grown. Josh Byrnes is one of the best GM's in baseball that's why the Diamondbacks got him and he's delivered. Sorry Roob but the D-Backs will be back next year...you just watch!
Just like that, 1 swing of the bat and it's suddenly 6-4 and the D'backs are still batting. It ain't over.

Upton just hit a triple. Tying run is at the plate.

Upton now with a triple and the tying run is coming up. This is why you don't leave a baseball game early.

Corpus gets the K. Three more outs for the D-Backs.
Tying run at the plate with 1 out. Umpire seems to be tightening the strike zone a bit. 3-0 count to drew. This is why you don't go to bed early as planned. On 3-0 that's the best swing he can take??? A looping swing that produces a popup. Are you s$#@R kidding me????? That stuff drives me crazy. If they're going to set you loose, take a swing like you're coming out of your socks. Here's Byrnes chance to establish his legacy.

Rox win 6-4. I can't believe they let Drew swing on 3-0! Rox will get a nice rest before the series. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Will they cool off?
OOOOOOpsy. Byrnes made one dive too many. Like most of his other dives, this one was more for show than dough. Too bad.

Who would have guessed a month ago? Baseball is such an amazing game.
Good night gentlemen, and Kent too. It's been a pleasure.
YAHOO!!!
What an amazing run! 21 of 22? Are you freakin' kiddin' me??
If the Rox go on to win the Series in 7, they would have still won 25 of 29 games- that's gotta be one of the most incredible runs in MLB history! If they win in less than 7... wow!
GO ROX!!!

Why mess with the streak? Let's go 25 of 26 to finish the season. Give baseball historians something to talk about for the next 200 years.

the Rockees have won and ten in a row and before that they won 11 in a row! Is 14 in a row a record???

Don't know Cheese. This record is kind of an odd one cause it started in the regular season and has now extended into the post season. In the regular season, 14 seems to be a bit on the low side for a record. For the post season, I don't think anyone has ever swept all 3 series they played in - that would be 3+4+4 = 11 wins in a row. Hopefully I didn't confuse you too much. I confused myself, though. What was your question?
