I just checked the roster and Deeva Vaughn is listed as a RS Jr. I guess I wasn't paying attention or else it wasn't announced that she was granted a RS year. I'm happy she will be on the roster for an additional year.
I also noticed that Jordyn Peacock is listed as a guard. I thought she was a post. (again I guess I haven't been paying attention)

I'm looking forward to seeing both of them play wherever they halp the team, I too am grateful for Deeva's extra year. For the first time in a couple of years, I 'll be ok going to the football games, so won't need every detail from the ladies team to keep my fires stoked. I will still read it all as time permits and can't wait for the season to start.
I noticed Jordan shrunk a bit and moved to guard. I am hoping this is a PR mistake--we were short on height already when she was 6'2" or so! ;) Maybe Funky will let us know.
I'm pretty sure that Funky posted last summer that she was a true 6' 3".
Oregon Live says, "JP, a 6' 3" post has signed a letter of intent to play at NM" (Nov. 16, 2011) Albuquerque Journal also had her listed as a 6' 3" post.
That's why I suspected a PR typo.
Though heights are strange things. Judy Vogt was always listed at the same height--or an inch shorter--than some of her teammates, but she was a clear couple of inches taller standing next to them.
And Mandy seemed to change height each time she was introduced in the starting lineups.
I guess it is just different for me. My height pretty much stays the same. It is my weight that always changes! ;-)
Perhaps we are just going to have a very tall 5 guard line up?
FWIW, Amanda Best was always listed as a guard/forward if I recall correctly.
Go Lobos! Go Erskine & Shump! Go Lucas! Go Cam!
Re: Jordyn Peacock's height, here's some photographic evidence. This link is for a team picture of Team Concept from last summer (you have to scroll down to the bottom of the article to see it). Mercedes Russell is the tallest girl, she's supposed to be 6'5". On the far right is Jamie Nared, who is supposed to be 6'1". Jordyn is the blonde next to Russell and appears to be midway between Russell and Nared, thus..... 6'3"!

Kailee Johnson, 2nd from left, is supposed to be 6'3" and is definitely not as tall as Jordyn
Kailee's kinda bending forward in the pic, I think she's really pretty close to 6'3" having seen her in person a few times.
Thanks dtrain34! Any ideas as to where Mercedes is leaning???
FYI - we're soooooooo looking forward to having Jordyn and the other Frosh on the team! I think they're all going to get lots of valuable minutes this coming year!!!
GO LOBOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is not any insight from me, but an announced item by Russell. She is down to Louisville and Tennessee.
Thanks dtrain34! I appreciate the response!
Man oh man, I'm sooooooooooo looking forward to this year; not because I expect lots of wins (hoping for it, though), but because of what I think the coaching staff (Yvonne, in particular) will be able to get from their team (the run to the MWC Final reminded me of the excitement that Coach Flanagan brought after his first year's run to the WAC title game). Barring injuries (and Lord knows we had more than our fair share last year), I think UNM Women's Basketball is back!!! WOOHOO!!!!
GO LOBOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any sightings of new players around campus yet?
Color me confused. Why would we want her status to change??? Her hardship request has nothing to do with her status: If it's granted, as a RS SO, she'll have 3 years (starting immediately) to compete for the Lobos. If it's denied, as a RS SO, she'll have 2 years (starting 2013) to compete for the Lobos.
GO LOBOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It isn't a question of how many years of eligibility she has remaining. She already played as a healthy sophomore last year at Tech. She only has two more years of eligibility remaining.
You may be confusing a transfer hardship waiver with a medical hardship waiver. In the case of a medical hardship, the player might be able to repeat a year due to injury (like Deeva, who will repeat her junior year). But this isn't a medical hardship case. It is a transfer hardship case.
The transfer hardship waiver is a waiver from having to sit out a year for transferring to a different school. If the waiver is granted, Ebony could bypass her redshirt transfer year and compete this year as a junior. Without the waiver, she would have to sit out this year and compete as a junior next year.
Calling her a RS SO is a bit confusing. It means that if she redshirts this year, she will be in the same class as Antiesha Brown (i.e. the sophomore class), which will be the junior class in 2013-2014.
I find a lot of the players' classification on the roster to be somewhat confusing.
If the format is truly YR/EXP, then I would think that you wouldn't put a RS in front of the year unless that player was planning to redshirt this year. Past redshirt years would go on the /EXP side.
IMO, Sara should simply be JR/2VL-2RS, Whitney: FR/RS, Deeva: JR/RS, and Ebony: RS JR/2VL (if she indeed will redshirt). Also, Chin is JR/2VL-RS because she sat out a year with an ACL injury.
But then I'm just someone in the peanut gallery giving unwanted advice.
