Lobo Football: Clayton Earns National Honor

University of New Mexico football player Chase Clayton has been selected as a College Football Performance Awards National Kick Returner of the Week, the CFPA announced Monday.

Clayton, a 6-foot-3, 203-pound sophomore from Carson, Calif., made his first-ever collegiate kickoff return a memorable one. Thanks in part to fellow kick returner Lamaar Thomas, who made three blocks on the play, Clayton raced 98 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter of UNM's 66-21 victory over Southern on Saturday.

Clayton was one of six kick returners chosen for the award. The others were Georgia's Todd Gurley, USC's Marqise Lee, Southern Mississippi's Tracy Lampley, East Carolina's Lance Ray and Kent State's Del Archer.

It was a sight to behold!! Talk about effort and willing yourself into the endzone - I've never seen anyone turn on the burner like he did for about 20 yards when those 2 (I recall) defenders had the angle on him!! Fantastic effort by all....
