I heard the last two minutes about yoga, sand pit and tennis. Anything interesting prior to that?

Doesn't appear to be anyway to hear it as it is not yet archived. Can someone provide the gist of what was covered?

The only thing a regular reader of the Lair probably wasn't aware of is that the Hall of Fame Classic game with St. Mary's that was to include several more non-con games as a package, isn't. It'll just be the game in LA. That's got the program looking for more games, another Multi-team event if possible (I'd guess unlikely this late, but that's just a guess).

Only other thing I found interesting (not to say Paul Weir is uninteresting ) is that Carlton Bragg still has to fulfill some team expectations before he's truly a Lobo. That's why Coach has discouraged media contact with Bragg as of yet. I didn't get the sense that there's going to be any real issues, but Coach is obviously drawing lines for his players about what you have to do to be a Lobo. That's a good thing, especially since Weir is pretty transparent about what it takes to remain a Lobo: full buy-in and a lot of hard work.

Also, grades are down. Not posted yet, but he's setting public expectations that grades "aren't where this program needs to be".

300 new season tickets sold since the start of season ticket sales (roughly a month). Program goal is to get back into Top-25 attendance.

    @thelobolairfeed is a good resource:

no word on bragg waiver, still needs to meet team expectations
lobos like kdub, giddens and logwood are finishing their degrees
team grades will not meet weir's expectations
lobos may try tennis to get in better shape
looking at guards and a big for next year's class
coaching staff now have multi year contracts
looking foward to home game vs. nevada, but missed out playing boise

No update on Bragg eligibility, but coach says he still needs to meet team demands. No injuries to speak of, team is doing yoga and perhaps tennis. KW, Logwood and Giddens working to complete their degrees this summer. Grades not out yet but coach does not seem happy about grades to come. 2019 recruiting will focus on guards and perhaps one big. Current coaching staff all have multi-year contracts.

Some random notes from practice/workout today:

    • Talked to Tavian Percy (will post an article this week). A big focus for him right now is trying to gain some weight (196.4 lbs)
    • Meanwhile JaQuan Lyle has been working on losing some weight. Dane Kuiper commented on JaQuan, saying his teammate has been committed to the weight room and has definitely shed some pounds
    • Tavian Percy dunked a few times today and in one of those JaQuan was like: "You got that??? I like it!" and gave him a high five
    • Kuiper said his arms felt heavy today from lifting but otherwise he feels his shot is getting better
    • Anthony Mathis shot quite a few 3ptrs today. Here is one of them
    • Mathis said this season feels different, "We know exactly what we need to do"
    • Mathis came down during practice and took a while to get up. He limped as he went to the sideline but eventually came back for the rest of the workout
    • Assistant Coach Brandon Mason was super energetic and loud, talked a lot to the players and pumped them up

Bloo, the 22nd rule of LoboLair is we don't talk about the Sound System...except on days that end in "y".

OK, then. Well, not that thing. The other thing.
Alright, zoom, we've got some bad news, bunkie. They're concerned about you. Your posts. They're afraid your posts are not at the same level as when you wrote your posts in 2012. They think you're going to need to start doing some cardio, maybe run a few sand hills, preferably around 1:00 pm, and practice walking with a book on top of your head to bring up that posture, bud. They need you posting more upright by the fall, or it might cost you some playing time. So work on sitting up straight when you're posting. Or there'll be no more playing in the sandbox, or swinging on the swings. You know you have to be so tall to ride on the rides, zoom. It's what you've trained for your whole life.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you know how Isabel is when it comes to these things.

I too am concerned. I had hoped that there would be NO drop off from the excellent academic side to the program instilled by both Alford and Neal - that was such a source of pride compared to the old McKay and Bliss years of abject academic fraud & failure. However, with Weir going so heavily to transfers I was afraid it would happen. Notwithstanding, Coach Weir's statement in this regard, I'm going to "keep my powder dry" on this point - it might just be that the grades are not living up to a very high bar being set by Coach (I hope this is the case). It was announced that our APR was perfect but in large measure that is probably a carryover from Neal. In any event, Coach's statement is a positive sign that he is taking academics seriously and I applaud that. I hope that his demands for excellence in effort on the court are at least equaled in his demands for the classroom - if players are not putting out 110% in their studies it should be "believe (and behave) or leave." Do like Alford with Giddens - sit him if he isn't doing his absolute best in the classroom - not just barely being eligible. If that doesn't work, show whomever the door no matter how valuable on the court.

I am happy to take a reasonable decrease in APR for a large increase in talent and results. Alford was able to deliver both, which is great, but no matter where APR is, if it is not perfect, someone can argue "it should be better". What is good enough? At what number are we not compromising?

Why would you speculate on this? I realize you used the word "may", but it is not fair to the player or program to say things like this.

I agree that speculation is unfair and I wish I had not included that statement - my only excuse (if there is one) is that is one of the things Weir mentioned when he spoke about not allowing Bragg to talk to the media. All in all - my bad - offending sentence deleted
