Big 12 has 3 teams in and WCC has 1, so the west side of the MS river of the country, doing better than a normal year.

Big East was similar a few years back and the lone surviving team won the National championship = UCONN.

I guess one could argue Big12 with only 2 teams west of MS River. :)

Still, would be nice if a western team wins it all this year. Doesn't happen often.

Actually UCONN was already part of the AAC in 2014, when they won the 2014 national championship. The Big East had split away prior to the 2013-14 season, leaving UCONN with the newly formed AAC.

Actually I was referring to 2011 - they were still Big East:

    • March 10, 2011 - In the quarterfinal of the 2011 Big East Men's Basketball Tournament, the 9th seeded Huskies (ranked 21st nationally) defeated the 1st seeded Pittsburgh Panthers (4th nationally) by a score of 76-74. Kemba Walker scored 24 points and hit a famous game winning step-back shot at the buzzer to advance.
    • March 12, 2011 – In the final of the Big East Tournament, the Huskies defeated Louisville by a score of 69–66 to claim their seventh Big East Championship. The victory capped an unprecedented run wherein the Huskies won five tournament games in five consecutive days. Four of those wins came against top-25 opponents. Junior All-American guard Kemba Walker scored a tournament-record 130 points in the five-game run, and was named tournament MVP.
    • April 4, 2011 – The Huskies defeated Butler 53–41 to claim the NCAA Championship in Houston's Reliant Stadium

Yea - but West Virginia is one of the Sweet Sixteen teams. Thus, my comment that technically the Big12 only has 2 teams west of MS River "in the Sweet Sixteen", if we are to claim the west is doing better than normal years.

The fact that the ACC flamed out will not haunt them much next season and I will bet that once again they will get the benefit of the doubt when selection time comes; however, when he MWC got multiple bids and didn't take advantage, we have seen the results. That's one of the many built in advantages of being a P5 - its the hill we have to climb. It may not be fair (IMO, its not) but it is reality.

For the record, the Pac-12 is 7-1. UCLA, Oregon and Arizona are winning the games they're supposed to win.

Its the Big-10 and the SEC that are doing the heavy lifting, and mainly at the expense of the ACC. If only Arkansas could have hung on and beat UNC...

Perhaps you may be forgetting that USC played in first four against Providence as 11 seed against 11 seed. Thus, USC, Oregon, Arizona, and UCLA each have two victories and only loss was USC to Baylor. :)

I do agree, for the most part, games won were suppose to be victories. Not many surprises, although I sure was hoping Rhode Island would be Oregon and St Mary's would beat Arizona.

The ACC is overrated. They always are. There suppose to be the best conference. They suck, just like every year. East coast bias like always.

The ACC was overrated this year however they aren't always overrated. They set records last year for most wins by a conference 19 and had 6 teams in the Sweet 16. In the last 25 years the ACC has won 8 National Championships, the SEC 6, Big East 6, and Uconn won 1 of its 4 NC in the American. 21 of the last 25 National Champions come from Conferences that are on the East Coast. The East Coast dominates college basketball and the Southeast dominates College Football, I'm so tired of people whining about the so called East Coast Bias.

Yeah Duke, UNC, Syracuse, and Louisville are great programs ... but 9 teams in is too many

great programs of questionable character would include North Carolina, Syracuse and Louisville...

I think the bias part of it is just the sheer number of entrants, not that they haven't had dominant teams. It gives the impression that they're hedging against upsets of the top schools, and also excluding other conferences from the money. Compare it to the professional systems, where there is no selection committee or judgement calls on what constitutes a "good win" or "bad loss". There's no reason the NCAA couldn't use the same type of system. They just don't want to, and it's fair to question why that actually is.

The reason is that there are 350 NCAA Division 1 Basketball teams. UCLA's win over Top-ranked Kentucky at Rupp was a better win than UNM's win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the Pit.

Why don't you go back 20, 30, 40 years and see where the national champions keep coming from. It is "east coast bias" because that is where the best basketball is. How many titles west of the Mississippi once they removed the regional automatically--pass-UCLA-into-the-finals structure?

Just like the SEC is historically the best football. I find SEC fans to be obnoxious too often, but the reality is they are better.

Sure, but that dynamic also exists in professional sports and it's never used to determine the playoff teams.

In the pros the schedules might not be balanced, but the numbers are much smaller so most teams play each other.
