Yeah, hope it works out for the kid, but glad all of our recent commits look to be totally bought in. Like Lyle said, "you're either with us or against us..."

IMO, we'll probably see VJ at the 4 with Ezzy or Agee starting next to VJ until Bragg is eligible. I"m thinking we go to a similar line-up as our 2012 team when we started 2 forwards, Drew and AJ. IMO, Vlad will get PT based on specific match-ups more than simply saying he's the only other post, therefore he has to play. Both Agee and Ezzy are quick and agile, which allows us to go way more uptempo, which I think is the ultimate goal right?

That's why this Maurice change really hurt us. Maurice was the clear starter at the 5. Still think we play in "waves" of players, so we will still go 10-12 deep and just keep bringing in fresh players.
What this really means is that Bragg is the best real big man on the team now. When we landed him, it seemed more like a trial thing and an extra luxury if it worked out. We'll really need him to be a factor now. He's the guy with the best chance to own the boards and score in the paint for us. Other than that, Vance will obviously be very good, but he's someone who likes to play on the perimeter. Let's see what Agee and Ezzeddine bring and how much Vlad can improve. We'll need some contributions from that group of guys. Not really scoring, but defense and rebounding.

Also, we definitely need to add a couple of a good high school bigs in the 2019 class. We struck out on some in the fall that precipitated recruiting all these juco bigs. I hope that changes for 2019.

RE vlad / let’s remember that normal a player’s biggest improvement is between their friends SG & soon years. Not always and sometimes it take longer for Buhs but we might see significant growth as a player. Really glad he is a Lobo!

Yes, losing Maurice, definitely hurts our quality of depth, which apparently Maurice saw Bragg sign after him and wasn't up for the challenge apparently?

I do think now that Maurice has gone to Memphis, VJ will take over Sam's, do everything at the 4 spot position and most likely will not play at the 3 at all, so he can master the 4 position. Kind of like the Lobo position on the football field. He'll be able to put up monster #'s. My guess would be he'll primarily be an inside player, but will also work the outside as well, just to keep defenses honest. He going to be like our Drew Gordon, a fringe NBA player. Ultra athletic, but unlike Drew, his jumper extends out beyond the 3 point line with accuracy. Drew's range only went out to 10-12 feet. If VJ can be as good as Drew rebounding wise with more range, his NBA stock goes way up. 6'9" 235 is big enough to play the 4 at the next level, especially with this quickness and athleticism and if he can rebound at a high level.

With all that said, the other 3, Vlad, Ezzy and Agee will have to step up and fill in the gaps for the first semester. Hopefully, we can win, while they learn on the job. When Bragg becomes eligible, it will make the team that much stronger and these 3 will get valuable experience in the OOC.

With such a deep roster, coach will have many diff combos to choose from. We've got a legit "Big 3" with Bragg, VJ and Lyle and plenty of other players to add legit firepower outside the big 3. IMO, we can be really good, especially, later in the season. McGee might also be a huge upside surprise. He has all the physical tools to explode. Only question, having to finish his JC work this summer, will he have enough time to learn the new system completely?

Tx: Let’s not forget the game has evolved. We must also change our mindsets. In today’s game a true 5, 4, 3 isn’t how teams are constructed in most cases. You get guys that can play all positions - that can switch on screens, that can run and shoot, both inside and outside the paint. If you get players that are long and tall that can do the above - all the better.

At present, we have 5 players 6’9” or taller. 9 players 6’5” or taller. Last year we played with 2 6’9” or taller. Nevada made the Sweet Sixteen with 3 starters at 6’7”. They had no height on their team - just talented players.

I believe we are in great shape. As Weir says, we have the players needed - time to make us a team.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. - Herm Albright

Plenty of competition for those spots. As noted in another article posted here somewhere, it's at least the local writer's opinion that Percy flew under the radar a bit. I think he is a highly athletic, high character, hard working addition. I believe he will develop into a very solid contributor. Go Tavian.

All I can say is the last Pasadena CA connection that I recall was a Pasadena City College transfer by the name of Michael "Coop" Cooper. Weir wants to play like Ellenberger, so just maybe Percy will be our next Michael Cooper!! Coop could play SG and PG, sharing the PG duties with Billy Reid as a Jr. and Russell Saunders as Sr.

BTW, Tavian himself says he is a 2018 recruit on his Twitter thread. I think we should believe that unless more compelling evidence comes out.

I don't know the rules on signing LOI over the limit, but according to the Journal - https://www.abqjournal.com/1159028/c...-to-lobos.html ,,,

" ... The commitment will put the Lobos over the NCAA’s allowable scholarship limit of 13, but Weir would not comment on that Saturday night and can’t yet comment on Percy’s decision because his signed National Letter of Intent had not yet been processed through the compliance office on Saturday. ..."

That article says he is a pure shooter. Also said he can play above the rim and is very good at defense. He might be a hidden gem. Go Lobos.

Yeah, I am very excited about him. He sounds like the classic (in the NBA) three and D player. He was on a team with several other volume-shooter stars including UNLV commit (6'3" SG) Bryce Hamilton so that is why his scoring numbers were not through the roof. They made the state championship game but lost as Chino Hills pulled away in the 4th. He should fit in perfectly with this squad.

It is also important to note that Chino Hills has a 5 star 2019 recruit manning the middle (6'8" Onyeka Okongwu). Pasadena didn't have that kind of talent inside and that is why Chino Hills was able to pull away.

Soft touch, smooth release, good energy and nice hops. What I might like most in the two highlight reels is the step through for the layup on the 1 on 3 fast break. Good decision and patience in the situation.

    Exciting.

I like the way he kept his head after that posterizing dunk and got back on defense and got involved in a tie-up. Most high school kids would lose their minds after a statement dunk like that (perhaps rightfully so). -

Mix tape looks good , but then again all mix-tapes look good. He does seem like a smooth athlete with a quick release. But games are not won with mix tapes and recruiting star ratings.

But let hopes it works out. I'm desperate to go dancing!

Great point. There are several instances of staying poised at the same time as making solid plays. He gets back on defense after every made 3, and except for a couple of them, he draws no attention to himself after the make. I like it. Seems like a Weir kind of player.
