"Under the heading “loan to player” are 31 current or former college players with amounts next to their names ranging from $71.39 to the $43,500 for North Carolina State’s Dennis Smith."

    - I wonder who got the whopping $71.39 'loan'. Someone with very iffy estimated future collateral, I guess (maybe W. Shepard ;-)

EDIT- more seriously though, that is kind of telling that some player apparently really needed $71.39. Kind of highlights the hypocrisy of the system...where the tv stations and athletic departments are making tons off these kids and these guys, in some cases, might really be struggling to get by. OK, maybe not all athletic departments are making tons...some of ours are losing tons...but you get the picture.

Really good point. I thought players could get up to 200.00 without any issues. 71.39 sounds like taking the family out to eat or a basic pair of shoes or something.

With $71 you couldnt buy a basic pair of jordan. My family the other night ate $50 at Wataburger and that aint a fancy restaurant.

71 dollars is like a nice dinner for 2 or 3. Definitely what that is.

Head San Diego State coach Brian Dutcher was part of the Fab Five stuff. He was an assistant coach for Steve Fisher at Michigan.

Chances of getting caught drunk driving are about 50/50–and there's a whole lot more enforcement of that than the NCAA does kickbacks.

What you're suggesting is obvious: Players aren't risking everything for $71–that's just one of the kickbacks they got caught with.
