He also said he might be growing some more. He said it was a dream to play for the Lobos. Welcome to UNM.

Great too see sum local kids on the team!! It’s always awesome to have a local kid to cheer for! But to be totally honest I don’t know why they r calling them preferred walk ones?? To be honest the type of players that Weir is recruiting, I honestly don’t see any of these preferred walk ones getting a full time scholarship or any substantial playing time in the near future. Idk?? I hope they can prove me wrong, but we will see I guess

Great post...sure give these kids a shot...perhaps one will really contribute..and keeps the whiners happy...get sick of those complaining about few NM kids getting football schollies... We now have Vail, Chavez, and Arroyo on roster...

I honestly believe Coach Weir is building a program for NM to be proud of (much like Coach Few has done at GONZAGA). I hope UNM will keep him for years to come.

It certainly appears that Coach Weir places a lot of emphasis on practice performance which would seem to give a preferred walk on the opportunity to earn a playing spot given how many players we see getting significant minutes in games.

Geesh! a young man decides to pass up potential scollie offers (perhaps at a lower division school or even a somewhat lesser D1 program) to join the Lobos as a walk-on (paying substantial money, etc. even with the lottery schollie) & some here are already minimizing his possible contributions. I for one first want to congratulate the young man on being one of the very few in the nation that Coach Weir has asked to join the Lobos and one of the very, very few that will have an opportunity to play D1 ball + congratulate him on following his dream of being a Lobo - you made it, Jordon!!!!!!!!!! Next, I want to thank him for becoming a Lobo and wish him every success going forward academically, athletically and socially.

It will nice to see these locals in Lobo uniforms. Let's hope they get a break and become scholarship players. If not, they will play somewhere else in a lower div. school. Good luck to them.

As I understand it now He will be paying approximately 40% of his tuition, 100% of all normal student fees, 100% of books and supplies, 100% of room & board unless he continues to live at home (still costs for food, etc.) but it should be noted that not living on campus (especially one's frosh yr lowers student sucess rate) plus no stipend- all in all literally thousands of dollars for him &/or his family - so yes, a definite sacrifice to be a Lobo vs. accepting a full ride elsewhere.

Those Albuquerque kids will live at home...they're not gonna spend all those coins on a dorm room....so tuition and books.

I sure he will qualify for Lottery Scholarship, which I believe is offered to all students with a 2.5 gpa. This will help and take care of tuition.

Only 60% of tuition- 0% of fees & books. He probably can live at home but ALL studies show that not living on campus (especially one’s frosh year) diminishes likelihood of graduating and student success so if the family can afford it he may chose to live in the dorms (at least his 1st yr ) which will mean he loses the benefit of room & board - even Albuq Scholarship athletes take advantage of that part of the full ride and don’t live at home. Make no mistake, choosing to walk on as opposed to taking a full ride elsewhere is a multi- thousand $ a yr decision.
