cannot compare DJ's efficiency under the mista noodle system and the coach who does coach effort. Makuach is going to be a very efficient player in the new system. DJ snd the others who transferred were held back with the system they were forced to play, good examples Mathis, Joe, Dane, Sam all say they play better under the Weir system.. Nothing but praise for this yrs team of Lobos.. its hard to compare players it is always unfair to them.. I am waiting for DRU to run the point..

Huh? Poor shooting is poor shooting. This system compared to the old one doesn't guarantee efficiency. Troy Simons for instance.

Xavier would have worked out perfectly in the Weir system and would not have upset any recruiting as he would only be here for a year.

Yeah, and the difference in shooting between Makuach and Jefferson is monumental. Jefferson had a poor jumper and missed more foul shots than he made. For him to become the player some dream he is, he will need to get his shooting under control.

True, but maybe Jefferson will do that at Creighton. There's not doubt he wasn't a good shooter here, though, regardless of system. I don't think some appreciate Makuach as much because he's not as flashy, but the guy just takes and makes good shots. Like a silent assassin.

I'm going to cheat by picking a player who left a full season before the coaching change: Mitch Lightfoot.

I watched the Jayhawks beat TCU at home Saturday night. Lightfoot was a big time difference maker in a game involving two 2018 D-1 power teams with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 6 blocks, 1 assist and 0 turnovers in 26 minutes with a lot those minutes played in the second half.

His season stats aren't exactly eye popping thus far. However, he is only a sophomore playing for one of the elite teams in the land.

I just want to respond to the title of the thread... who do I miss?

Dairese, Roman, Hobson, Gordon, Bairstow, Kirk, Greenwood, Snell, and Williams...

Desire, grit, toughness.. and winners all. Gawd I miss them more than I can bear. Best Lobo years... ever IMO.

Spot on... Realistically, coach should clean the cupboard of any of Neal's old players as anyone leftover from his regime seems to be carrying poor attitudes like Logwood. He needs 110% buy-in from players that are willing to play in his system.

A coach's system has a lot to do with a players performance on the floor. Weir will recruit players who will buy into his vision. Our walk-on player has bought into Weir's system, hustle and effort playing within your skill set. This yr. Weir needed to field a team the best he could in the future we will see an increase of shooting ability and players who want to put in the WORK..
    X man a leader..

Sorry, but I have to call a BS on this: 1) Joe, Dane and Anthony have at least as good an attitude as any of Weir's recruits; I doubt that anybody could have had a much better attitude than X - his stated reason for leaving was his mother's very serious illness; We have no real idea what is going on with Sam but it would be hard to infer (as without facts that is all we are doing) that his "attitude" is somehow worse than Troy's, a Weir recruit (also inference, although I did see his apparent sulking in the AF game which would make Sam's apparent sulking look like being a cheerleader, if we are going to infer things).

I suggest that Weir and the players have and continue to be working out their relationships, etc. and we should leave it to them to continue to work it out.

When I started this thread, I didn't mean it to be a referendum on Neal or Weir and not really on any of the players except to the extent that one might miss how one player or the other played last year. I do miss watching X - his attitude, willingness to go to the mat for his team, willingness to take charges, defend guys 5-7 inches taller, fight for every loose ball + his eccentricities such as cowboy boots with shorts was just fun for me as a fan. I'm not saying I would trade any of the present kids or Weir's recruits for any of those that left - just that I do miss watching X perform while others might have different "favorites." That was all I meant by the thread although I certainly don't have any right to dictate where it goes.

So what? The ones that were here are no longer here. He was never here. Pretty much the same end state. Not sure why it matters since this is essentially a “what if” topic.

Wish I'd checked in on this thread a lot earlier. My favorite Lobo the last two years was Jordan Hunter. I really liked him and followed his senior year as much as I could. He's gritty, can shoot, and will be a leader on his new team back home, near Ozen. I will follow his progress at Lamar, a school that knocked a decent Lobo team out of the NIT many years ago (86?).

Athletically, and within Weir's system, it would have been great to see the development of Jefferson. He might have been a monster getting steals and going to the basket.

It would also have been great to see what X would have contributed. I think between he and Joe we would have had a real presence underneath. Were it not for his injury, X might have stayed IMO. I'm not sure Weir's conditioning expectations and healing from a torn ACL really go together. Especially as short on the rebound after the injury it would have been.
