    Per Football Scoop:
New Mexico: Source tells FootballScoop San Diego State quarterbacks coach Blane Morgan is a candidate for offensive coordinator at New Mexico. Prior to joining the SDSU staff for the 2015 season, Morgan a former Air Force quarterback himself served as quarterbacks / offensive coordinator at Air Force for a lengthy run.

Obviously knows option as well as pro style offense. I remember him somewhat when he played - The Falcons were very tough then - option, option, option - play action for a home run.

Would be an excellent hire. We can't recruit the type of kids to run a spread/pro style type offense. We need to keep the option as part of our offensive scheme, but someone that can come in and mix it up as best we can with type of players we have

Interesting. This tells me a continued focus on the run with just enough passing to mix it up. In other words, pretty much the status quo.

That’s essentially what Coach Davie said during his last Coaches TV show broadcast. Paraphrasing here but he said we needed to keep some option elements because of our recruits and the players we get; plus the fact that it’s effective. However, he also said that is was time to mix things up more because other teams have seen us enough that they’ve figured out how to stop us.

So asked some suds fans about him and their response was, he went to suds to show he was more than just a triple option coach, recruits Tx and helped to upgrade the QB position. They all believe he'll be a perfect fit here.

What I like about Blane is his QBs don't turn the ball over. We lost games this past season because of that. You cut our turnovers in half and we would have gone bowling. I hope Blane accepts this promotion so we can get 2018 underway.

If he can help develop QBs then bring him in, we have not had that in years here at UNM!

So pipedream here. If Kevin Sumlin isn't hired at Arizona, I would love to see Noel Mazzone become the OC with the idea that he takes over as head coach after Davie retires.

I'm certain the job and money is beneath him, but that's why it's a pipedream......

It's certainly ok to dream as a fan. Having a NM native & Lobo letterman who has successful credentials as a part of the program and perhaps even its leader is not a bad dream at all. However, I'm for Davie getting whomever he thinks is the best fit for us at this particular place and time and let the future take care of itself - if it is Mazone, great and if not, may then sometime further down the line.

Mazzone accepted the job of quality control at Texas yesterday. I would love for him to come back and take over the program some day. All this experience at big time programs will help him to know how to run a program properly. His work at Texas A&M & now TX will pay off recruiting wise. Hopefully he will want to come lead our program after Davie hangs it up.

The fact that the OC has yet to be hired during the middle of recruiting should be a bit alarming.

Very disappointing this is taking so long.

If we go past this week without any hirings then I'll begin to worry, but as of today and by the way we are recruiting it looks like Davie has zeroed in on his coaches or they may have already been worki and not announced yet. I know of one school that had coaches working for weeks before they were formally announced.

i think that’s an NCAA violation.

    Copied from the NCAA website:

Only institutional staff members are permitted to recruit prospective student-athletes. Generally, NCAA rules prohibit anyone else from contacting (calling, writing or in-person contact) prospects or the prospect’s relatives or guardian for recruiting purposes.

If Sumlin goes to Arizona, so will Mazzone. Hell, Mazzone could be the next coach of Arizona the way it's going. Does a coach that is looking to be HC go to be "director of quality control" or go to another OC/HC coaching gig?

Anyway, it's all irrelevant, there's no way Mazzone comes to NM for less than the HC.

The coach from Navy has been offered the job and he will decide this weekend if he's taking it.

Coaches don't have to be formally announced to be on staff for them to be working. Also coaches can recruit kids for incoming coaches.

Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo withdraws from Arizona coaching search, per local reports.

It's funny reading the message boards, it's very reminiscent of the recent Lobo basketball coaching search. So and so is in, no he's not. A new so and so is in, no he's not. Oh ffs, the sky is falling. Our job sucks and nodoby wants it. We have no money for a good coach. We have no resources. The job isn't as good as the fans think it is, etc.........
