    A glance at rpi

    First Post Banner
It is still too early to take much from this, but I was surprised by where we sit right now.

Realtimerpi has the conference ranked 9th in the country, with Boise St. leading the way at 15.

We, on the other hand, are a dismal 259, just barely ahead of SDSU, the lowest ranked team in conference. Our strength of schedule has us at 228th.

The predictor has us 11-7 in conference and 16-13 overall.

I think we are better than that ranking and it should begin to correct itself. I would think we will end at least in the top 150 this year. It will be interesting going forward to see how this does.

It will also be interesting to see where the teams we have played so far end up. Currently NMSU is 229. Playing them twice has hurt us, but them playing us twice has hurt them more at this point. LOL

Eastern Illinois will not help us this weekend, but if we could pull an upset at Marquette, that would be sweet! Fresno St. is also a projected loss, and would be nice to take that one as well. At least one of those 2 for sure.
Go Lobos! Go Nunn! Go Sam! Go Joe!

Boise State's only played only one top school, being blown out by #11 Wasington 92-66. I can't imagine our team on the losing end of such
    a score. Time will tell.

Sagarin rating for MWC. We have 3 teams in the top 100, Colo St #68, BS #74, UNLV #88. 3 more teams in the top 150, FS #105, WYO #133, UNM #134. UTST is #158. 3 teams in the 200s, SJST #200, SDSU #237, NEV #244. And AF 316.

The conference as a whole has done a lot better this year in OOC wins. Recruiting is getting better, some new coaches starting to get their recruits in their system, things are looking up for the conference. I never did think we were down in the 20's conference ratings as we've been the last few years. But we did have some bad OOC loses the last 3 or 4 years.

I think if we can hang in 9th or 10th place we will get more than 1 team in the WNIT.

Actually the played a much better OOC schedule this year as in previous years. They played and beat Wash St, St Marys, Charlotte and have Hawaii coming up. Washington St is a very good team.

I agree, it is very important to the MWC league as a whole that it's members get quality OOC wins. Coaches that attempt to "schedule" wins via a cupcake OOC schedule will never impress post-season selection committees.

Our RPI got a boost when Oregon State beat Washington today. Why? Their only loss is to Marquette.

A glance at the RPI site Massey finds that they predict UNM will defeat Fresno State on Saturday by 6 points, 64-58.

Do these RPI ratings factor in injuries?:) I still look at match ups over most of this stuff. Should be a close game. Lobos can win if shoot better, rebound better.

A Marquette win vs Depaul would help our RPI a little. They scored 38 in the 1st quarter and lead by 20 early in the 4th.
