Nice bonding trip over Thanksgiving for a young team next season. Alford probably hand-picked this trip and time.
And another big game on the horizon that im not at liberty to discuss. Its still super top secret.

The last time they went to Hawaii it was also when school was not in session so that gave the team plenty of time to travel and get rid of the jet-lag before the game. They beat up on Hawaii that night. Hopefully they will do the same this year.
BTW, The Lobos seem to do better in the Pacific paradise than the Caribbean paradise. Alford is always talking about how poorly they played in the Bahamas and we all know how they did in Cancun. :Afun)
Wouldn't it be cool if the NIT would award all the winners of the first round of the post season tournament a spot in the following season's pre-season NIT? For example, since the Lobos won a first round game in the NIT this year we would get to host a game in the 2009 pre-season tournament next season. There should be some kind of award for getting the shaft by the NCAA. What do you guys think?
I was thinking the clue was "Horizon".
It's always Lobo roundball season . . .
Sorry, guy trusted me with this. I will say something just as soon as I can. Very good game and I think everyone will be very happy with.

It's always Lobo roundball season . . .
Is it a home or away game?

Thats what I thought.

Well, at least nothing about this subject.
It's always Lobo roundball season . . .
Back to Hawaii. How longs the flight?

Does Hawaii being on the sked still buy us an extra game?
Remember: pillage first, THEN burn!
BTW, I went to Hawaii to watch the Lobos back when Charles Smith & KT were playing. It was an awesome trip (the Lobos won and Smith had a monster slam I will never forget). I highly recommend going to Hawaii if you get a chance.

This is a great trip for the team and fans. I like it cause it's an out of conference game. I don't ever want to be in the same conference with Hawaii again. Well the exception might be if the Pac 10 invited Hawaii and UNM as members to form the Pac 12. Guess there's not much chance of that happening.

Okay, I see where everyone is excited about a trip to Hawaii, but I don't see anything that suggests Hawaii will be improved next year. I think they will be a hit on our RPI. That said, I haven't really researched who they have coming back. If they stay as competitive as they have been in the last few years, they will be a mid to low tier WAC team. That is not good if our aim is to improve the schedule. However, with a young team, maybe it is a wise move..
there roster is showing NO seniors this year. likely everyone back. 6-7 210lb 17ppg roderick fleming is returning, pending any transfers of course.
Young team on the road in beautiful hawaii vs. a veteran squad who SHOULD be improved.
RPI in 2005, 06, and 07 was in the 100s.. The last two years it was in the high 200, with an RPI that should be on a teams schedule just once.. which team will we get next year?

Hawaii should be improved next season, but even if they are not, playing on the islands still gives us an extra game, so it's like a free game as far our our allotment. That and it's a great bonding trip over Thanksgiving for a young team.
Known schedule so far:
@ Hawaii
@ Dayton
vs. Creighton
vs. NMSU
@ NMSU
@ Oral Roberts
vs. Texas Tech
Other things in the works, like RPS points out.
whats interesting about our schedule compared to other teams in the MWC, the lobos seem to play more OOC games than the others. I think this year, SDSU was 4-5 games UNDER where UNM was at in non conference games played.. different strategies for scheduling here.
UNM 15 non conf. games
UNLV 14
NMSU 14
Utah 13
SDSU 11
the year before this year UNM also had 15 non conf. games.. its all about quantity apparently. not that thats a bad thing neccersarily. but the RPI is a tricky system.
a gimme game shouldnt matter as others seem to UNDER schedule. Imo, a gimme game like this means only one thing, we're back at 15 non conf. games this year.
