The time is right for Walker's move and I wish him the best. He can get after recruiting for a rebuilding team at his alma mater while we are already loaded with young talent with only a few key scholarships left to give out over the next few years. He did a heck of a job for us.
It amazes me that nobody has yet to mention Ross Romero for this position. NM Force has been quite an impressive program over the years and he's obviously got a great reputation to consistently lure top regional talent to his team.
And uh... gee... uh does anyone else have a better current relationship with one of next year's biggest recruiting pieces in our puzzle? Hate to mention it but that the way college hoops works these days isn't it?
I hope to see Ross's name n the mix this time. He's done a great job building a quality program in the very region we need to tap for much of our talent. It's obvious the guy knows what he's doing. I think he'd be a fine addition to the current Lobo puzzle.
may the Force be with us, always.

Interesting thought. Ross is a good guy, but it will never happen. Alford's kids play for the competing AAU team and that's pretty much all you need to know.
Yep. Coach knew Ross would be moving on so wanted his kid to play for a coach who would be around a little longer! ;)
Either way, I think Ross has earned being considered in the mix. Building such a successful aau program around here can't be the easiest of things to do... and he's done it.

I wrote about Ross a while back(Cobbins) is a great example of the players he's getting these days and winning.....great connections local and Texas, his players n teams are hitting the big time, I thought he would get the Highlands job last year.

I'm honored and humbled just to be mentioned on TLL! I don't quite feel the love on the other board. :) I'm proud of our accomplishments. No other program in the history of our state has put as many young men (and a few young ladies) into college on scholarship. We have a lot of great board members and coaches that have made a huge difference!
Just to have the opportunity to work with these young people and have over 60 players in the last 5 years receive college scholarships, nearly 30 former players receiving Division 1 scholarships, with a few playing for money, is a true reward and blessing. The reward is also in helping shape young lives.
It has been great building relationships with the players and contacts from various parts of TX, CO, AZ, CA, OK, NM and beyond. I have had the honor of coaching and helping place kids on the map from all parts of TX (Houston, Bryan, Amarillo, El Paso, etc), AZ, CO, & NM.
I appreciate the kinds words. The Lobo Basketball program is not in a desperate situation that they need to scrape the bottom of the barrell for an assistant.

Ross-
You are a great asset to the community and to the kids you coach. No need to be humble.....I think you would be a great assistant. If not UNM...surely some university will be lucky to have your expertise.

Agreed.
You've done an excellent job Ross.
If you're what comes up when the bottom of the barrel is scraped then get me all the almost empty barrels you can find!
The fact that you seem to base your success on how well you help others achieve their goals is an admirable trait that speaks volumes of your character. It's a fine example for today's kids to follow and a key for building successful teams.
Whether it's sooner or later I'm sure you'll have the chance to move to the "next level" before too long.

I think what you have done for young kids is outstanding Coach Romero. I see far too many guys in AAU Circles who use kids for thier own selfish personal gains. I have seen too much of that and quite frankly I am appauld at times to hear the conversations which take place at AAU tournaments. Plenty of love from Tucson for what you do Coach.

You are the man Coach Romero!!!!
I feel like an idiot! But I am an idiot so it kinda works out!
