If Boise joins the MWC, you should imagine 5 teams out of the conference in the Top 20. A couple more top notch recruiting classes by Locksley and company and the Lobos could join those teams at the top.

I totally agree Eastmtn. I can't figure out why the Presidents of the MWC don't bring Boise State into the conference. They have expressed their desire to join on many occasions. If they can't figure out how to do a 10 team schedule, they can ask the Pac 10 for help.

Boise isn't on the list to join because they are only good in football and their academics are not held to as high of a standard. (so I have been told). This is all hear say but I suppose some of it could make sense.

Since expressing their desire to join the MWC, Boise State has made a concerted effort to improve the other sports that they compete in. I don't know about academics, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to improve those also, especially if they were told it was holding back their chances of joining. It just seems to me that the Presidents are skittish about expanding the numbers after what happened to the WAC. Personally I think expanding to 12 would be a smart move and if they pick the best schools to join could enhance the conferences chances to be included in the BCS someday.

My preferences are Boise State, Houston, and either Nevada Reno, or Fresno. I believe all of these schools would be ecstatic to get an invitation to join the best non BCS conference in the country.

What about Tulsa? I know their not a "mountain" school, but neither is SDSU or TCU.

As far as adding teams goes, I think that Utah right now is school that holds all the cards so to speak. With Utah's success, there has been so much talk in the media about them jumping ship to the PAC 10 that I think the other schools presidents/AD's are a little concerned about loseing them. Likewise, I think if Utah came out and said 'lets add Boise', it would be difficult for the other schools not to get on board.

Of course I could just be a totally off base on this one too.


On a funny note, I drove my family via Conversion Van to Florida this past summer. When passing through Alabama I wrote 'GO UTES' and MWC on the back glass.....got many a dirty look.

I have nothing against Tulsa. I just think Houston is a huge media center for the MWC to get back into. If getting into the BCS is our goal, then media size matters. Oh, and it is also an area we recruit in for many sports.

We have three teams from the Big XII South Division ranked in the top nine teams in the nation. We probably have the toughest division in all of major college football.

Hmmm. I don't think we would want them in the MWC. Let them go to CUSA. Fat chance they will get kicked out of the Big 12 though. It was politics that got them in and it will be politics that will keep them in.

I go crazy about all the expansion threads on the MWC Board. I'm surprised there aren't more here, which I'm acrtually glad about.

I don't believe the MWC needs Boise. Boise does not meet the standards the MWC has, especially academically. Also, the TV and tourney money would now have to be split one more time, giving less to each school. And it will screw up scheduling, especially in FB. We would either have to not play one team each year or we would have to give up one OOC game.

There have been many arguments about adding three teams and creating two divisions. But most of the projections I've seen have UNM in the opposite division from Utah and BYU, which are our big money games, with the esxception of NMSU.

Overall, I like the MWC the way it is right now and we have a strong argument for BCS inclusion without BSU. And BSU has generated these great records playing WAC competition over the past few years. They wouldn't have as good a record playing in the MWC. BSU would not have as sterling a record over the past few years and may not have gone undefeated a few years ago when they went to their BCS bowl if they'd had to play Utah, BYU and TCU that year.

Boise St. has a history of trying to be an egalitarian university that will attempt to educate anyone. As much as I want them in the conference, if they do get in we would just have to live with their academic standards because there is no way Boise St.-check that, any University- will change anything about their academics in order to cater to their athletics.

I just don't see a good solution to this.

All you have to do to know the pro's and con's of adding Boise is go to the MWC board and you'll find dozens of conversations about this subject. I would add them ONLY if it gave us "BCS" status and for no other reason. Although, it would be hard to be a "BCS" school considering my anymosity towards the BCS. I guess I'd have to hate myself. :)

Well, UNM has improved their academics tremendously over the last 20 years or so. I know their medical school and engineering schools are very much improved. Did they do it for athletics, of course not. Does it help our recruiting? Absolutely. There are many reasons for a university to improve their academic programs. I wouldn't sell BSU short. They are using Football to improve their national profile but I am sure they will be improving their image on many fronts. Anyway they want in the MWC and I am for letting them join unless there is something terrible about the place we don't know about. BTW, the money they have been earning playing in bowls should far exceed the amount they draw from other MWC revenues. Will we get a guarantee of BCS membership if we admit BSU. No Way. We just have to be the best conference we can be and bring in Millions of TV sets to the party if we want admittance to the BCS.

The only issue I have with adding BSU is that damn smurf turf. Get rid of it, it is an eyesore.

Now, their is nothing at all confirmed. But some on the mwcboard make very compelling arguments for why BSU will be added for 2011.

The MWC should be good enough without them the next couple of seasons. BSU gets to play two more years feasting on WAC competition. They join us for the final year of the cycle in 2012, and we get to use the 3 previous years plus the first year with BSU in the next BCS Review.

I don't think BSU goes unbeaten in the MWC. They probably get 2-4 losses. Playing a Utah St or Idaho is nothing like playing a New Mexico, Wyoming or SD St. Our bottom is much stronger than the WAC. And our top is much stronger as well.

As for the MWC rankings I love it!! The only bad thing is week one of college football.. BYU is going to get pummbled by the Sooners which will lead to more disrespect for our conference..
