Rivals ranks Lobos at #76
I've been following the Rivals rankings that they've been giving out, all seem to be semi to pretty accurate.
Here's their small evaluation of UNM, who they ranked at 76... a bit higher than CHN's ranking of 90:

76. New Mexico
CONFERENCE: Mountain West
BEST PLAYER: F Roman Martinez
QUICK TAKE: The Lobos' home court, known as The Pit, provides a big advantage. But the Lobos have to play better on the road.
BUZZ: New Mexico lost its top two scorers (Tony Danridge and Daniel Faris) from a team that went 22-12 and reached the NIT last season, but the Lobos return their other three starters. That makes them one of the conference's more experienced teams in this season of upheaval for the MWC.

72. SDSU
93. Utah
113. Wyoming
122. TCU
199. CSU
213. Air Force
BYU hasn't been released, and they will be releasing the top 50 one at a time. So it may be a while before we find out where they stand.

BYU is that high? Did some guy come off a mission that we dont know about?

Love it,,,,,,Rivals,,,,,patuuee,,,,,,,the LOBO flying gazelles are going to a scary team to play, under the radar is a great thing, no pressure, and then we're gunna freak em out with a fast , hard defense and a fast n furious shooting, scoring offense

Earlier this summer Coach Alford talked about a byu big that was coming off his mission @ the end of summer and is a stud. The lobos should finish 3-4 in conference...byu is the team to beat and unlv should be in the mix. sdsu has the most individual talent, however coaching is still suspect. Lobos success will be on the guards getting confidence early in the season. Outside shooting consistency will be the factor, since we have no proven low post presence!

This has us ranked 4th in the MWC which is probably realistic. Now if an unnamed center had buckled down and was still on the roster, we are ranked 1st or second in the MWC. Oh, well, Lobo fans are used to hardships.
