    Non-Conference Schedule

I know that with the Lobos success this year that it would behoove the AD to try to schedule some top teams from the Big Six conferences. My question is this: should they also be trying to schedule games against teams like Gonzaga, Butler and Northern Iowa, so there's no doubt about who is the best mid-major in the land? And do you think those types of teams would be interested in scheduling UNM for the very same reason?

I don't know if the motivations were to see who the best mid-major were, but that pretty much describes this season's schedule when they made it.

I could live with this year's schedule being played every year. A tad too many cupcakes, but hey, everyone does it, no?

I just feel like Gonzaga and Butler get so much love from the media, that having those two games on the schedule would be an emphatic boost from the Lobos if they could win them. Didn't we use to have a home-and-home against Gonzaga? I guess we got bumped so they could play teams like Duke and Wake Forest.

The AD does not schedule games. Many times it is the Coordinator of basketball operations.

We are not a mid major and we have to win in the tourney and get at least to the sweet 16 to let everyone know that. We are in the seventh best conf. in the country. I bet those teams would not come to the PIT and play us.

UNM has re-established itself. You could see a similar situation where one of the "Big Boys" wanting to schedule a home and home. But that home game could be a neutral court situation. It just depends who UNM schedules. I am sure there are programs very wary of playing in THE PIT. But I think they would still play there. It just depends who has open dates and can schedule them for next year. Scheduling is a lot about getting what you both want not letting another program take what they want and getting nothing what you want.

I do believe it was us that bumped Gonzaga, I'd love to see them back on the schedule, home and home with Butler would be good too, but who cares about anything to do with Iowa

Really? No rpi 300+ teams, only 5 teams with rpi's of 200+ and 7 games against top 75 rpi teams. I would say that's a hell of a good schedule.

You must not remember the old Dave Bliss OOC schedules? Now those were cupcake schedules.

It's good for the players to get trips to Hawaii, San Diego & Houston.

One upgrade I would like to see is a made for TV game on CBS, ABC or NBC in the OOC to get a little more exposure for our program. May have to play a Big 10, PAC 10 or ACC to get that?

I think someone mentioned we are in a OOC tourney next year that could be televised nationally?

Ask Andy Katz if he thinks we're a mid-major...

good post. you saved me some time.

    but look back to 2005:
    Two rpi 301+
    8 rpi 201-300
    2 rpi 101-200 range
    1 rpi 51-100
    1 rpi top 50

    vs.
    this year
    0 rpi 301+
    5 rpi 201-300
    3 rpi 101-200 range
    3 rpi 51-100
    4 rpi top 50

    NIGHT AND DAY.

BEST OOC SCHEDULE IN ATLEAST 20 YEARS here.

2005 was a decent year too. many years it was far far worse. a TRUE CUPCAKE FESTIVAL. This is not even close to that

I'd like to have the "Candies" from Arizona on the schedule! Bring on some of the toughies even Texas A&M when Mr Gordon is eligible. Yup Bring em on and let's kick some you know what! Utep, NMSU< Univ Of Colorado, Ole Miss, Marshall, Providence, Rutgers, Bowling Green, Western KY or Big Ten powerhouses...Minn, Purdue, Yes..even Iowa! It appears that the NCAA tends to recognize names from the power six conferences. Let's take em on and show what this Coaches teams have in store for them!!

Alford should publicly state he'd like home and home series with Big East (remember Georgetown) and ACC (I think we had one with Wake Forest) teams. And then use his new podium to talk about the teams that turn him down.
