I like the 3 seed, and in a good braket for us.
Joe has us holding on to a #3 seed in the Salt Lake City region, with our first 2 rounds in San Jose. Go Lobos!

Whoops, I see RonMexico barely beat me to posting this bracket. Well, at least we have plenty of people on top of the latest news, rankings, and brackets!
I like that bracket as well.
That is a very favorable region of the bracket for this team. The Midwest and East regions are brutal!
Gotta love seeing the Salt Lake City bracket with no other high seed from west of Waco or Indiana.

Rebels still in pretty solidly too, and SDSU among just the last 4 out bodes well for conference
SDSU and UNLV have got the goods to make it. They are both good teams.
I was disappointed that Lunardi said in the mid-major chat that he thinks UNM has hit about as high as it can go in terms of seeding. I wonder why it's so unrealistic to think the Lobos can get a #2 seed, especially with the Big 10 and Big East teams having to play each other in their conference tournaments. The Lobos have a chance to pick up three more high-quality wins (2 against BYU, 1 against either SDSU or UNLV), and if the Lobos keep rolling and other teams falter, who's to say they can't pull off a #2?

Here is my take on that...

Illinois is in as a 10 seed with a 71 rpi and a nuetral court loss to Utah and SDSU is out with a sub 40 RPI and a 2 game sweep of Utah???![]()
Illinois has wins at Clemson, at Wisconsin, Michigan St., Vanderbilt, and against Northwestern when they were ranked.
Sadly, San Diego St.'s only marquee win was against our Lobos, and they had pretty bad losses to St. Mary's and (eek!) Pacific.
I can see why many bracketologists aren't sold on the Aztecs yet.
Yeh. I like SDSU, they are a good team, I wish that they could pull themselves up. We lost to Oral Roberts, they just need some big wins (BYU this week being the most important) if they want to make it to the NCAA tournament.

If we play in San Jose -- I will definitely be there.
When it was first mentioned, I thought it to be a bit of a long shot, but we have been continually linked to San Jose for the first round, so Im getting jazzed!!!

From Zouk:
St. Mary's has a top 50 RPI, how's that a bad loss?Sadly, San Diego St.'s only marquee win was against our Lobos, and they had pretty bad losses to St. Mary's and (eek!) Pacific.
OK, Pacific, top 125 RPI, maybe a bad loss, but the Wyoming road loss is the one loss that looks real bad right now (rpi >200) and if they don't make it, will probably look at that 2 point loss in Laramie as the reason. (what a shame if it comes down to that)
I'm just sick of the bracketologists that talk out of both sides of their ***. They say they look at overall resume, well right now Illionois is 17-10 with a couple more losses looming on the horizon and a 71 rpi is there for a reason, they had some very weak OOC opponents.
SDSU had a 3 point loss at ASU, OT loss at the PIT, 2 point loss to BYU. That passes the smell test for me, especially the win up in Utah, which UNLV was unable to get.
Unfortunately, that last game against Air Force is going to hurt their rpi.
We'll see how it shakes out, but if IL gets in over SDSU, it's a money grab for the big 10 and the networks and there's way to sugar coat it, unless SDSU just crumbles down the stretch.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but why would you care Ron?? I mean I take it this is the same RONMEXICO at the CS site that is an Aggie fan and rips UNM and their fans all the time??

Only reason I mentioned it is becasue he used the exact same avtar as you bud.. And he is a jerk, so I hope it is not you..![]()
believe me, its not me!
A loss is a loss, no matter how you lose. Losses don't pass any kind of smell test and they shouldn't. Should Cornell get a high seed because they took Kansas to the wire in Lawrence? Absolutely not, they still lost the game. SDSU is the 4th best team in the conference and they've had plenty of chances to pad their record in the conference, but haven't done it. They've made their bed, and if they don't make the tournament, they can proudly represent the MWC in the NIT!
The answer is they'll have to win out to get a #2. I think they're capable of doing it, but I don't think it's too likely we run the table the rest of the season including the tournament. I'd actually prefer that they slip up once more before the tournament so they stay hungry for that first weekend. Even with one or two losses the rest of the way, they're virtually guaranteed no worse than a 4 seed.
good news for you LoboCap, Jerry Palm currently has SDSU in the tourney! I'm guessing they have to win out (except roaddie at BYU) and win a game or two in the tourney to get their rpi sub 35. A win over BYU would probably get them off the bubble and in if they win out.

In his behind the bracket story, Lunardi says that SDSU would "vault" into the field of 65 with a win against BYU.
I don't know if I should root for Byu or SDSU. A Byu win would help Unm if we beat Byu but an SDSU win would help the conference.
Fortunately, no matter which way we root in the SDSU-BYU game it will make no difference. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule I won't be able to watch it live (ditto for the Lobos game).
It's safer for the committee to put the Lobos at 3. It's a damn good seeding so it can't be said we were slighted, yet if we were to blow it early (something they are worried about even if we aren't) it's a bit less embarrassing.
Definitely rooting for SDSU. We are competing for a title here. Any assistance we can get from another team is welcomed. We have to win tonight and if we do, it still sets up a showdown for the title. However, if SDSU beats BYU, then no matter the outcome of our game on Saturday, we would either have the lead outright by 2 games or be tied for the lead.I don't know if I should root for Byu or SDSU.
It would also solidify SDSU's case for an NCAA bid, giving the MWC an opportunity to field 4 teams into the tourney for the first time EVER! That would be huge.
Way too many positives for a SDSU win.
Only drawback, BYU's seed goes down a little... (very little downside vs. huge upside)
Disagree, txlobo - if SDSU strolls in and beats BYU in Provo I guarantee a psychological advantage for BYU against us on Saturday. BYU will NOT lose two in a row at home. It's just not going to happen with a team like theirs. If BYU holds serve against SDSU, then we go in with as level a playing field as is possible in a true road game at the Mariott. You're right that we're playing for a championship, and an SDSU loss (in my humble opinion) puts the Lobos in the best position to pull off a huge road win that puts the Lobos one home game away from that title.
This is, of course, all assuming that we handle CSU tonight, which is a pretty big assumption. One at a time!
Who we root for depends on our game tonight. We win we want SDSU to win , if we lose for some reason or another we want BYU to win because , no matter what happens with our game at BYU guarantees us the 2nd seed in the MWC tour. Win

I will be at the game wednesday at the MC. I still don't know who I will be rooting for. You have a point that they will probably only lose 1 if they do, and I would hope that that 1 would be against UNM. What a week for basketball!
