A friend of mine that works at the thomas and mack as a server, had to listen to an array of negitive talk about darington at a mwc vip event yesterday.he could not make it at unlv, he's a thug, he has no family structure thats why he went to unm,he will not be a lottery pick, he wont make the nba, hes d league material ,hes not poy, hes not even the best player on his team etc.these vip's were boosters from various mwc teams.i would pay to see mr. hobson who is a unlv football booster, walk in on that conversation! why all the disdain for butta?
that's pretty weak... Hobson was the OBVIUOS choice for MWC POY... People spew hate becaue they feel threatened...
They hate because they don't have him.

They're hating because he's not theirs.
Its funny that they say he won't make it in the NBA. He has only a few MONTHS of D-1 bball under his belt and he is great. He is amazingly talented and built like a star. He's going to be a first round lock and a definite contributor in the NBA....
They're opponents, they're the enemy. Not to worry, they're hating on Alford also. Jimmer was their Great White hope, and Butta proved their preseason picks to be faulty.
I'm gonna quote Alford's youngest son, "I like it when people talk trash. It makes me play harder."
They're talking for a reason, let them hate, they'll be proven wrong. :-)
UNLV fans are calling players from other teams thugs? LMAO! They will always be known as thug central. Must have been a bunch of moronic Joe Spilotro clones.
Wait for Butta to lay the smack down this weekend. And watch them weep. Jealousy is a terrible thing!
And a thug? DH has been nothing but class since he came to UNM. Its pure ignorance.
From listening to what Butta has said in interviews, this is what he's been hearing his entire life. Seems to me like he feeds off of this negative talk directed towards him. People have been telling him ''You can't'' and ''You'll never be..'' for a long time. People talk, Butta does...
Envy.... it makes people project their shortcomings onto others. Clearly this person has some issues... the least of which is being able to tip his hat to a role model college basketball player that plays within his abilities, involves his teammates, thinks "team first" and let's his play, not his mouth, do the talking. DH is the envy of many who suffer from "playing the victim".
Butta the true mvp!
1trainer , let they talk , heck unlv fans and VIP's have been talking about how great they are for yrs, but yet as they talk the UNM championship train has pasted them by and is looking for bigger and better things. Keep talking UNLV , it just makes our players play with more of chip on our shoulder.
It's funny but all you ever hear out of Hobson is polite things, compliments and praise about other players and teams. He's the class of the conference, come to think about it all the Lobos are like that and that is a reflection of our coach. I am very proud to be a Lobo!
It's sad that people are saying these things and diminishing what he has done. I think Hobson really changed has attitude from when he was a freshman and has grown into a well rounded player. Even Rebel-Net has changed their opinion (or at least are in complete agreement that Hobson was the hands-down POY). Those that make those comments are just holding angst because it is obvious that Hobson did not turn into the cancer that many thought he would be. Good luck to him in the future, I am hearing nothing but good things regarding his NBA ambitions.

Say what you will about the early years (under Tark), but it is obvious that your acumen with regard to Lon Kruger coached clubs is seriously lacking. Kruger doesn't recruit thugs, he won't even take chances on guys who have been in trouble but could be program changers. As far as the existing team (and teams dating back to Krugers first season), every one of these kids have never been in a lick of trouble their whole lives. Most are honor role students and great representatives of the community. One has even received a letter from President Obama because of his community service efforts. Thugs in the Mountain West? Please don't say things that you don't really know about. It's not fair to these kids who have worked so hard to be upstanding gentlemen in this community. I know that the harsh words with regard to Hobson are ill-willed and poorly stated, but it has nothing to do with the players currently on the UNLV roster, many are friends with Hobson as he ran with them over the summer.

My first post. Read the title carefully folks "MWC VIP'S HATE ON BUTTA".
Stress "MWC VIPs", NOT, I repeat NOT, UNLV fans, boosters, nor our athletic administration, so stop assuming we are the villains here.
Kruger himself has done nothing but praise Hobson, our players are acquaintances from Vegas playground ball, and Rebel fans in general have come to accept his behavior as many of our past players had the same cocky, winning attitude.
As you say, damn his behavior is annoying at first, but only because he's not on your team.
Edit: Forgot to mention, you know what school the "MWC VIPs" are loyal to, right? You know what school runs the conference? Hint: It's not UNLV.

Oh I see....you mean the folks from the Beehive State....
I once told my wife, "don't hate the playa, hate the game." She told me to go sleep on the couch.
As for Hobson..."couldn't make it at UNLV". What's that all about? I never heard that UNLV was interested in him or vice versa. According to the reports I heard about his recruitment was that the Lobos have been recruiting him for quite awhile and got in early on his recruitment. I haven't heard of any "thug" affiliation, so why would some UNLV booster spread such rumor if that was the case. I, personally, feel that Hobson though at times may tend to "showboat" is a very talented TEAM player. I've seen him on several occasions and have found him to be respectful and friendly. certainly not the traits you would associate with a thug.
Coach Lon Kruger is a class act. He does one heck of job recruiting and is a very good coach. I don't believe that he wants any bad seeds anymore than any other coach in this league does. People can love their respective teams but let's not let loyalty to one team turn into demearnor or disparaging remarks about others without facts.
According to this for what it is worth he had an offere there:

I know why. They are jealous. DH rubbed their noses in it again today. I love his game and I love him. I hope we play UNLV in the finals and he goes for a triple double this time.
We'll see what they say when DH is making the big money and they are watching him shine on TV while he tears it up in the NBA.
The funny thing about UNLV, they don't recruit their own home town. No Billy White, No Loyd and No DH. I hope Kruger never leaves UNLV. Obviously he and his assistants have a hard time recognizing talent. Especially in DH's case. If I were a UNLV fan, instead of taking it out on DH, I would be calling for Kruger's head.
BTW, tell DH I love his passion. I LOVE IT.

Butta 28 points and 15 rebounds who wouldn't want that ??? LOL,,,,, Butta is a LOBO !! you Butta critics go suck your thumbs !!
I think alot of this has to do with how Hobson handled recruitment the first time around pre JC. He rubbed alot of people the wrong way and although he's made a complete 180 that mantra still on him. I believe he should have been MWC POY as he's a tremendous talent in the league and on the lobo's. I really think people are jumping off what the few have to say about Darrington. I really can understand how outside fans might get that notion as with Hobson's skil level and all it really makes it easier for him to be hated. Also he practices with alot of the UNLV/Findley players during the offseason and there's not really any ill will as if their was I doubt he'd be practicing with them.
