Great thread over at TRM about Dominique Dunning. A couple of great posts by Mr.

Dunning talking about throwing 4 letters from UCLA into the trash. Mr. Dunning also gives his view on why his son hasn't gotten the national attention and ranking that other less talented recruits have. Mr. Dunnings posts start about half way down.

I am very familiar with Ben Howland and his staff. My thing with Dominque is that you can do great things at UNM just like he could at UCLA. You do not need to be at a Kentucky or Kansas to be a factor and a difference maker. Personally UCLA has really mismanaged the talent they have had the last couple of years. UCLA has a good class coming in so I hope they do better with the group coming in. I am a firm believer that you can do big things at UNM just like you could at a KU or UK. The way Coach Alford and his staff are developing players and the program you can see why they are attracting the top talent.

Good discussion. Dominique, for reasons stated by Mr. D, keeps flying below the radar on the scouting services despite his great accomplishments. The only thing that matters once he gets here are his results. He'll be on even footing when he shows up. All the awards and pre-season rankings go out the window for all players once they get here. We'll know how good he really is once he puts on a Lobo uniform. From the video I've seen of him, I think we're in for a special treat.

BTW, Dairese Gary was not a Top 100 recruit coming out of high school, yet he was all MWC by his junior season and his play continues to improve to the point that some (like Lorenzo Romar) now think he has NBA potential. This staff found him and recruited him early in his High School career. Coach Alford and his staff are better evaluators of talent than the scouting services.
