Apparently because a better time is to be had in the parking lots:

The Lobo Lair: It's how we roll!!!

Maybe Krebs should consider making the rounds in the parking lots and passing around a Lobo football helmet for donations?

The Lobo Lair: It's how we roll!!!
Just go out to the game. I'll be at the TCU game knowing full well that the Lobos will be crushed....but I only get to see the Lobos play a couple times a year in person and that is one of the times.

WOOF WOOF WOOF
Most of the tailgating crowd are students and don't they get into the game for free anyway??? If the team continues losing and as soon as the weather gets colder there won't be any tailgaters either. it's all good.....

The way that our attendance is currently trending you'll probably only have 7,000 die hard Lobo fans to keep you company -- at least until half time after which you'll probably only have 4,000 really die hard Lobo fans to keep you company especially if the weather is crappy.
The Lobo Lair: It's how we roll!!!

Not exactly since game tickets are part of their tuition expense.
Anyway, the point isn't that they can get in for free. The point is that they don't want to spoil their buzz by watching another loss added to the ledger. The other point is that there a lot more people in the tailgates who are not current students and a lot of them are not going into the stadium either.
The Lobo Lair: It's how we roll!!!
4000 after the half? I was thinking more like 1500, and I will be one of them no matter what the weather is or how bad the lobos lose, and yes to the very end of the game..... I do refuse to pay sixteen bucks for a nocho and two soft drinks though, I've got to draw the line somewhere.
Part of their tuition or not it does not matter, I graduated from UNM and currently have a daughter at NMSU and a son at UNM so I totaly understand the economics behind the tickets. I enjoy tailgating and it is a blast, who cares if they don't want to go to the game? The fact is they have a choice and they make their choices for whatever reason they want. We all would like to see the stadium filled but it takes a quality product on the field to do so. I enjoy the hell out of watching the game after tailgating and i think it would be not so fun if it wasn't for the buzz. It's all good..
Didn't local YAFL families used to work the concessions and take home a percentage? That may have been 2 years back and prior, but the lost fans affect so many people
Imagine this situation.. More people outside than inside. That has to tell administration something. Fans willing to drive out and be close to the stadium, enough to show that sort of support, but it just ends there. Maybe they need to charge $20 dollars for parking?
I've seen an organized version of this once at a soccer game over here in Germany. The fans were pissed off about the teams performance so while they DID attend the game, they stayed outside the stadium until about 10 minutes into the game when they came in and took their seats. Pretty impressive show of force....maybe Lobo fans should consider something similar.
No go on the increased pricing for parking, it's not about the money or tailgating, it's about the product on the field, think about this, if UNM charged $20.00 for parking to see the basketball team the majority of people would pay it. This is because the product on the court is worth seeing.
So this isn't a basketball town it's a winning town? Why do people pay the high prices to go to Isotopes games? Because they win? Nope because it's a party. Football should be the biggest party in town win or lose. Look at schools like Wisconsin and Michigan who have had bad teams at times but still had full houses. If the women's team does finish 6th like the conference poll said than Flanagan should be looking at 1500 in the stands by the end of the season. So what everyone is saying here Lobo football will be a ghost town until they win. If that's the case drop football. Will attendence jump 5000, 10000 just because of a new coach? I highly doubt it when attendance for men's hoops has gone down the last two seasons. You either support the program win or lose or you're a bandwagon fan. And I don't know anywhere else where I can find a Division 1 college football ticket for what most legitimate programs charge for parking. Students get free tickets and don't go? Rediculous.

I honestly think it is pretty weak. Tail gating is part of a college football experience. If you go out and drink and party before the game, go in.. And please people, do not give me the economy excuse in these threads anymore. It is almost free to go to these games.. LOL, that excuse is SO PLAYED. People are probably giving tickets away at this point.
I guarantee that 99% of the schools in division 1 football would have student attendance problems if you go 1-17. My friend at Texas a&m told me quite a bit of the school didnt attend the mizzou game and a good portion of stadium left at halftime. There is nothing to even DO in college station so that says a lot. Most people are fair weather fans you have to understand that.

And what do you propose would make them Lobo fans? Heaven knows we need all we can get these days. Perhaps in your view they are incorrigible. That would have been the case 40 years ago.
I think maybe it would be something worth watching inside the stadium would be an encouragement.

It wasn't so long ago that we could get crowds like this:

The Lobo Lair: It's how we roll!!!
Wow. that is all I have to say.
In a sick sorta way Bag dude is fricking funny!!!!
Bag Dude also took the time to write the message "Help Us!" so there was some thought behind it which makes it funnier.......
It's really a tragedy to see what has happened to our Lobos under this coaching staff. I recall Coach Locksley making an appearance at the BB game last year full of enthusiasm and excitement. He tried his best to win over the BB crowd which by the way is also the football crowd. Then things went wrong with the off the field incidents..etc.etc. His team showed up playing sloppy football game after game. Offense stunk, Defense Stunk and so did the Special Teams play. Everyone seems to be blaming Krebs and I just don't see that. Krebs sought out and hired someone whom he thought was going to be a better coach and one that could take us to a higher status. $hit happens!. The sad part is that despite all of his other good hires (Basketabll, Soccer, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball, etc) the crud is starting to run up his leg with this football caper.
Great PICS Ditchwriter. And, so very good that I wish to duplicate them herein... but then, you have always been accomplished in the art of "framing" a concept or comment, as I easily recall from other times and other places.
Well, lots of new and different features on this board, and as I am hardly tech-savvy, it'll take awhile before I can even figure out how to stick in the avatar and such like. So... I'll take it slow, one day at a time -- sure, as every single coach or player has said one time or another, I reckon... and we'll see how she goes.
Attendance? Give the fair sporting folks of ABQ a good show -- hard fought, honest all-out effort and without any second-half slack, and I have the idea that the crowds WILL once again resemble your top-most PIC moreso than the bottom one.
