Inching our way up in the RPI

Sitting at 91 right this minute. Changes almost by the minute as games go final...

I'm not sure I trust that site. In their power ratiangs UNM is in the 60's - not that I would argue with that at this time. But they show our power rating dropping big time - I guess because we played Hawaii and Weber State. This suggests to me that their "power ratings" are too heavily influenced by SOS - just like RPI

Not sure what their "power ratings" are based on, but the RPI on there is just a calculation which is consistent with all the other RPIs we see.

rpi is as biased as east coast commentators...until presbyterian, weber state and duke all start with a base zero at the beginning of the season, every result and calculation is biased.

I find this predictive site interesting. It's also updated daily.

    http://rpiforecast.com/

It also shows the MWC finishing in 7th place and receiving 3 tourney bids.

Gee, where's the WAC on that list? It's a power conference - just ask any Aggie.

The WAC? I thought that conference was dissolved several years ago. Oh yeah, never mind I heard a WAC team, Boise beat BYU today. Gee, maybe Boise should move up to D1 and join the MWC.

OK, I'm confused by that statement, and also the inconsistency of rpi ratings between sites. I have noticed in the past the realtimerpi and collegerpi have had differing numbers. collegerpi had been more accurate. However, rpi is only supposed to be based on formula, and bias should have nothing to do with it???? What's the answer? :look

I don't know if I would call it bias, but there are some subtle oddities in it. This article discusses some of it:

    http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/more_rpi_fun/

Basically the NCAA does weird things when they determine what are "road" and "home" games in a few instances. The RPI gives a slight boost for winning a road game so thats where there would be a bias.

I reiterate my comment about not trustingthe site. The comments about the NCAA's model show that the care one takes with data and with modeling do impact the outcomes.

Yup. So much of it is your opponent's winning percentage. Since Hawaii (who we played twice, so they count twice in our opp. winning %) won tonight, that helped us quite a bit for today. It will change again tomorrow, I'm sure.
