I'm actually kinda jealous.... A 42 thousand seat football stadium could hold 30 thousand basketball fans. The T&M center will turned into a retail/commercial center.

Wow. I didn't realize they were gonna play basketball in the dome. That's pretty bigtime.
Question:
If they can't sell more than 12k tickets when UNM comes to town, how are they gonna sell 30k?
FEAR NOTHING!!!!!!!

Dom can you put that link?? looks pretty way out there ish,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,similar to RPS's design of his bathroom addition........beedaiee thingy....lol

It looks like Noah's ark to me. Kruger still won't be able to go to the promised land with that thing.
We go out for the National Finals Rodeo every year, looks like one hell of an upgrade.
I thought it looked like a dog bowl...
Now they get to host the long anticipated Souper Salad Bowl!
I think its time for UNM to make a splash....and announce the baseball stadium renovation.
The Rebels will still play basketball in the T&M. If you go the the site that explains the proposal you will be able to see the vision for the entire complex. There will be retail space, dining, shopping, movie theater, student housing, a hotel and so much more. If this proposal goes through, UNLV will be on the cutting edge of college athletics.
If RedPitSea would like the link I can give it to him. It is not related in any way to any LV newspapers.
The link to the proposal is not linked with a Las Vegas newspaper. It's a UNLV link. This proposal is pretty big time. FWIW, the basketball configuration for the stadium will hold 20k.
Here's the link:

If it's not allowed, you can delete it from my post.

Where would parking be? Las Vegas could use a light-rail system for around the strip/airport/UNLV. I to would be cheap comparatively to other cities in it's Use to size ratio.
Its the developers link, and they want everybody and anybody to see it. According to my source at the Press Conference, T&M stays as Rebels home. Will only play in Dome when games are sold out. Being the T&M holds 18,500, that won't be too often. Its really a huge project when you check it out. Student dorms for 3,000, restaurants and shopping, hotel and other amenities. Visiting teams can stay on site, no travel from hotels to arena or stadium. I don't think sketches do it justice. Reality is, it will probably be a recruiting tool for UNLV football, which needs all the help it can get.

MWC tourney. Certainly don't need to hold 30k for it, but it would be a cool (way cool) option for the tourney.
Never understand why people think it's cool to watch basketball in a football stadium. It sucks.
If you read the article, the basketball configuration is 22,000. It will probably be used for the MWC Tourney, as UNLV will continue to play in the Thomas & Mack, and the Events Center will provide a more nuetral atmosphere. The "Vision" section of the article shows different configurations, but you have to zoom to 150% to be able to see anything.
I like it! Cuse of the west? It will be a cool experience but not a true basketball environment. After a few years it will be old. Nothing compares to the dying breeds like THE PIT.

I know it's UNLV but everytime plans for any new stadium/arena come out I get excited. Im hoping this is where an architecture major can take me... The seating configurations are interesting. It almost looks like both halves of the stadium just slide together to form a perfect bowl. I dont think that would be the case but Im curious to see how the court is enclosed. Most domes would just have a horseshoe configuration at one end, and a block of temporary seating to enclose a court... The way they have the court completely enclosed would make watching basketball there different than most domes. It makes me wonder if it's just a lazy rendering or if there is some deep thought into that. This could kick off a new generation of stadia if it does end up being something unique. The basketball experience would be so much different. I dont see why they wouldn't want to play basketball there more often.
Supposedly, the only thing that this will share with Syracuse is that both football and basketball are played under the same dome. The actual building configuration is completely different. The football stadium transforms into the basketball arena. It appears it would be completely enclosed, meaning a pretty good basketball experience. It's supposed to end up something like this:

This is for Spxgolobos. This explains a little on the concept of the stadium.

edit: Sorry about the double post. Looks like mach1rebel got to it first.

Thanks... Yeah that was something I noticed in the plans. It mentioned "stadium mode" and "arena mode"... The words they used described alot. It won't just be a court in the middle of a dome, but the stadium would become an arena right? Very cool... I had always thought about something like that I have so many sketches, but I assumed it would be logistically and financially impossible to do that. That's sick... If I had only been born ten years sooner...

It will be a game changer for recruiting in all sports and will draw events. UNLV will use the T&M center so techinically they could use either depending on what's going on. It could also host multiple events so both the football and basketball team can play on the same night and not have to worry. Either way it's a step in the right direction.

I can't wait to witness Lingerie Bowl IX in person in the new dome! :)

MWC tourney site? Looks pretty cool from the sketches.
Will it happen or is it just a dream?
