this game summarizes his career(period)
Battling through pain and he just gets it done
Hope it rubs off on some of the young guys for next year. We need that attitude.
Those last free throws he shot. It was like this was on his face.

“They understand what we want. … Our drive is to cut down nets. Our drive is to size up for rings every spring.” - Steve Alford

i am proud of the way we battled back from 15 down, Gary is our BULLDOG... Another young player needs to learn how to do it !!
You can't teach what Reese gives this team. What a ball player!
Outstanding game for Dairese. Especially like how he held Willis scoreless the last 15 mins of the game.
Dairese played his heart out. He will be missed.
My favorite lobo of all time.... He has given everything to UNM and the basketball program.
Dairese is tough, gives his heart 100% of the time, and I love him.
yep, love the way he plays. It's hard to teach toughness, you either have it or you don't. he's certainly got it!
I hate to say it, but it might not be until Dairese is gone that some of these other guys realize they have to step up. Too much standing around watching him late in games.
Alford's first recruit who had never heard of UNM but trusted the coaching staff and became a Lobo. A dude that nobody had ever heard of before Alford was hired here, and even then was very much a mystery. As it turns out, he'll go down as one of the great Lobos of all time and one of the most beloved. There are a lot of great Dairese moments, but I will absolutely never forget him as a freshman up at the Huntsman Center in Alford's first year...he still had the cornrows :) Gary's handles were impeccable, and he just knocked down free throw after free throw down the stretch to put that game away. I don't have the stats handy and I'm not going to look them up, but before that win the Lobos had a ridiculous losing streak in that building.
Dairese Gary is a guy that you want to be proud of, and he comes through again and again...on and off the court.
Dairese is what lobo basketball is all about, an underdog who rose to be a champ. It's been a pleasure to watch him lead the lobos.
Kind of silly, I admit, but I teared up a little bit when I heard Alford talk about Rese a little while ago. I'm not trying to be negative about the team, but this team could have been better this year than they are and, while the team isn't terrible, I think Dairese deserved better than he has gotten this season. I hope than when this season is over and school is over, he does nothing but sleep for at least a month and heal.
I hope its not true that it takes Dairese leaving to motivate some of the younger players to step up. He is an incredible baller who can score a lot of points but that's not his game. He's great at running the offense, making assists, and taking it to the hole.
Dairese...YOU WILL BE MISSED...You are a WARRIOR!!! Season isn't over....You know Dairese will keep his head held high and give one hundred percent for the remainder of the season...let's hope we can finish strong and make it to the NCAA's...3 wins in Vegas will do just that and I have confidence in this team! Go Lobos!
Damn, I wish he'd hit that shot at the end of regulation!!!! He deserved to be the hero last night...

Dairese's freshman year I remember so well the game against Texas Tech here at the Pit, Alford against his mentor Bob Knight. Dairese had 18 points in the game leading us to an 80-63 victory. There were a number of Red Raider fans in attendance, including one nice gentleman sitting next to me. After Dairese drained a 3 from about 45 feet as the halftime buzzer sounded, the guy turned to me and asked "who is that number 5?"
"That's Dairese Gary", I told him, "he's a freshman from Elkhart, Indiana"
"A freshman?" he replied, "Damn, he's going to be a good one, wish we had him"
I smiled.
Well, Dairese, you've been more than just a good one. You've been a great one. It's been our good fortune to have you playing for our team these past four years.
Who is that number 5? It's Dairese Gary, he's the Man.
Thanks for being a Lobo.
