Interview with an icon: Steve Alford

After more than 20 years, the lessons Coach Alford took from Bob Knight at IU are still with him. Alford told a Nebraska University fan site that Knight:

...Wasn't a guy who was going to tell you something that wasn't true. He was going to tell you that it's hard to be good and it's hard to get your degree, if you don't do what's right and work hard. He'd tell you, ‘I'm going to make sure you get your degree and I'm going to make sure you have a friend for life and you're going to play championship basketball.'

The interviewer pretty much blew off UNM. I didn't like the interview.

I think it had to do with the B10 and Steve Alford more than UNM but yeah. Point taken.

I understand that, but mentioning Alford is coach at New Mexico as an aside and making his time at Iowa more important just ticked me off.

I really didn't see it that way. I didn't see where his time at Iowa came off as more important. The interview was geared towards Alfords time in the Big 10 but mainly as a player and how it was playing for Bob Knight. Nebraska is new to the B10 to it's natural that the interview was done for a Big 10 audience. Trying to get a feel for what it is like to play and coach in the league. I enjoyed the read.

Sounds like Nebraska fan wants SA as their next coach, and a smart move getting their fan base to read about it now. Doc Sadler may be out after this season, but I don't care - SA has so much going on here, so Nebraska can only dream about it.

Alford = loves coaching in a basketball crazy town in a basketball crazy state.
Nebraska = even the interviewer states they're all about football.

    'Nuff said.
