men's soccer today

UNM Men's soccer will be playing the Air Force Academy today at 3:30 here in Taos at the Taos Eco Park. This was a lot of fun last year. Hope many of you are able to make the trek up here.

Nice 1-0 win, in a fairly competitive exhibition game.

As usual, AFA had some pretty stout defense in the box in the first half, but had absolutely no attack in their offense, and just sent long crosses toward goal hoping something would happen. Our first-string defense is pretty darn good too and they kept AFA at bay. We had a few nice offensive combinatons in scoring positions, but couldn't quite connect for a goal.

Second half was a complete reversal, with AFA attacking the goal against our second-string defense ( which looked shaky at times), but late in the period, Coach sent in some of his offensive starters, and Blake Smith zoomed a low stinger past the Zoomie goalie for the final 1-0 score.

Great day, fantastic venue, azure-blue New Mexico sky over Wheeler Peak in the background............pretty sweet.

P.S. - Sat on the turf for the whole match, and that stuff DOES get pretty toasty on a warm day. And pretty smelly (like old tires...).
