It will be a rough year but I am optimistic and I believe that we will increase our wins by whopping 100% this coming year!
What? How could we be picked to finish last?

Like I've said, I'll be perfectly happy with 2-3 wins as long as the team plays hard and shows improved discipline. Getting overpowered by Texas and losing by 40 points is forgivable. Getting overpowered when you're rebuilding and losing to Boise by 40 is forgivable. What's not forgivable is the stuff like multiple 15 yard deadball penalties, not knowing where to line up or the snap count etc. I'm confident that Davie's team will be significantly more disciplined, better conditioned, and stronger at the point of attack.
That being said, the numbers are really really thin and there is definitely the need for talent upgrades at multiple positions. People need to have realistic expectations (which I think we mostly have) and support the team through the rebuilding process.
Beating Southern, and two out of the three between NMSU, Texas St and UNLV would be a successful season imho.
3 wins and some momentum.

And to think Christensen @ WYO was a finalist against Locksley for the head job![]()
I'll take a slightly more optimistic view. With increased discipline, an emphasis on execution and toughness (and maybe a little luck), I see wins over Southern, NMS, Texas St, UNLV, and CSU, and we do not finish in the cellar.
Barring any injuries, I believe in Coach Davie and honestly believe that we will win more games this year than what we did over the past three years.
We'll get a good crack at Air Force, Hawaii and CSU...all going through QB depth troubles, new coaches or both. The other teams I hope we out tough, control the ball and see to it that we finish in the fourth quarter. Five wins will get the 2013 season off right...so that's my ceiling. I expect three though.
There's three new coaches to face out there and we don't have to play SDSU (unfortunately). Parity is a good word to describe this upcoming season. Nobody knows WHERE the hell it's going to lead.
Fresno has yet to prove that they're capable of running the new offense DeRutyer is trying to set up, a 180 from Pat Hill's scheme. They have talent but it might be jumbled next season...sound familar?![]()

I forget who it is who commented on the drain that the games @ Texas and TTech will impose on the Lobos, but I agree. This means that we may not be physically ready to play the next game, which is one that ordinarily I could predict as a victory, the one @NMSU. I wish I could be optimistic. I see little chance of more than 3 wins, and only 2 would not astound me. As I posted earlier, there will be a shortage of experienced, capable personnel until at least 2014 and likely later than that.
4 or more victories this year should earn Davie conference COY, and 6, national COY.

The cupboard is more than bare....it will take years to catch up but we have the right person I believe!! Sad but true that we are destined for the cellar.....the dude at UNLV has to win at least 5 to keep his job so that game against them is not a gimme....3 wins is about right for us.....which makes me cringe as I type this....I don't hate anyone but Locks is coming close...

We should be able to knock off Southern and Texas State. Other than that we will be the dogs. I willl be happy if we can at least compete with NMSU, CSU, UNLV, and Fresno.
Air Force seams to always have great years when they are predicted to finish low and have lost a ton of starters.
I wish we could say the same thing. This is worse than when I was a kid and had to sit through the Sheppard years. At least those teams could put up some points. I just want us to be competitive.

The more I look at our roster, especially the # of seniors and the talent level of the projected 1st teamers, I think we have enough talent to win more than a couple of games. It's going to be all about injuries. I know we are bringing in a new offense and new defense, and that could take time, but still. Our two-deep isn't as bad as people might think. If, however, we have even just a couple of injuries...
I agree with you. This is a senior-laden team. We have talent at almost every position, albeit thin in most areas. We should be strong at WR, DL and LB. If our OL can stay healthy and we can get anything out of our DBs, we should be competitive. I think the following two seasons could be tougher than this one. We'll lose most of our team at the end of the year. The next two seasons will be mostly freshman and sophomores.
We're MUCH thinner and weaker than the Sheppard years, Storm, but thankfully we have a MUCH better Head Coach!!! This will be a ROUGH year and next season will be TOUGH as well. Give Coach Davie two more years and we'll be TOUGH!!! Patience, not a core competence of mine, is cautioned! :)

Yeah, I get it and sure hope you're right. I stand by all our lobo teams and hope nothing but the best for the football team. I hope I get to see a few games this year in abq and on tv. I'll be at the road games close to Denver for sure.Originally Posted by ValleyLobo
