They must really think the general public is stupid

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/...l-playoff-idea

So now instead of the BCS we have the BCS +1, just with a more PC name. Really great. I hope nobody is falling for this. I guess in the most pure sense, any team can crack the top 6 but basically its just the rich getting richer... Perfect example of why I HATE college football.

They're just funneling the access even tighter. With many of the "BCS" conferences growing in number (shrinking the number of OOC games) and signing scheduling alliances, they're relegating the non-AQ's out of the process by manipulating the Top 25 through SOS and ESPN's window of public opinion.

Have you ever read the press in the south? It's obscene the depth of bias I've read there.

Not only do the coaches who vote in the poll not have the time to watch every game in the country, the people that do are so enamoured with drinking from the most conveinent media wells that they become laughably bias. Not even close to a viable scientfic method for assessing the top teams in the country.

Soon the pattern will just repeat. The Non-AQ's will protest for access and they'll add a few teams to their tournament they're "not calling a tournament" and hopefully the pattern will finally whittle itself out. For a while.

If Thompson and Co. get on their horse right now, they might be able to shed some time off that cycle. Congress might need to follow through with whatever actions they've threatened with anti-trust issues....whether they make headway or not.

I actually dont mind this as opposed to where we are today. Both Utah and BSU would have had a chance to play in the NC game under this model. Same goes for Auburn. We will probably never get a real playoff, and by that i mean the conference champion of every FBS conference gets an auto bid and home game and remaining spots are filled by at large selections. I would love to see that, a real 16 team playoff.

You can hate football all you want but without it basketball would be out too. I would love to say that Hoops is the more popular and drives alumns to donate but it doesn't. The schools with the top endowments are football schools. Endowments tied to basketball are just a fraction of football. Spots television is driven by football and the advertising dollars it generates. Basketball comes no where near this. We are one of the few schools where basketball is the cash cow. Those schools that depend on basketball don't do very well overall. If basketball really wants to be king then football has to be the ultimate. It's a fact of life and if it wasn't then realignment wouldn't matter or wouldn't happen at all.

you got it right GiJoe Ray...at least now the lobos and several others are not exluded by definition...if the lobos have a season like those of utah, tcu and boise state, they will get their due...might not get in the championship four but will still reap many benefits...it will never be better than that...and it does not bother me...

I wish they would do a 16 team playoff like you suggest - 11 conference champions and 5 at large bids. Rank em 1-16 and let them play....

The key, which they will never go for is that the conference champions get to host a home game. Which i guess would puch the total teams to 24 or so.

In the 16 team playoff with 11 conference champs and 5 at large teams, I would rather all games be neutral at already established bowls. Teams not in the 16 team playoff could still get invited to other bowls, just that the 16 team playoff games would be played at the 15 best bowl sites.

I am 69 years old. If I live another 25 years I still won't see a 16 team play-off, unless there is a successful anti-trust law suit or congressional pressure. (The congressional pressure won't happen until there is a different political climate, which I don't see happening for many years.)

Utah, BSU and TCU would need to put formidible schools on their schedule to get high enough in the polls. For the reasons I already pointed out (increases of BCS conference games, scheduling alliances) these three teams wouldn't make the top 4 without strength of schedule and they wouldn't be able to book these games. This format is a ruse. This is not a situation where you can copy and paste the past into the future. They are permanently shutting a door here.

One entire class signing class would have to go undefeated for three years to sniff the Top 4 and even that's not a guarantee.

Without a viable top 12 playoff, this doesn't even resemble fair for several Non-AQ (and arguably some AQ) conferences.
