They're just funneling the access even tighter. With many of the "BCS" conferences growing in number (shrinking the number of OOC games) and signing scheduling alliances, they're relegating the non-AQ's out of the process by manipulating the Top 25 through SOS and ESPN's window of public opinion.
Have you ever read the press in the south? It's obscene the depth of bias I've read there.
Not only do the coaches who vote in the poll not have the time to watch every game in the country, the people that do are so enamoured with drinking from the most conveinent media wells that they become laughably bias. Not even close to a viable scientfic method for assessing the top teams in the country.
Soon the pattern will just repeat. The Non-AQ's will protest for access and they'll add a few teams to their tournament they're "not calling a tournament" and hopefully the pattern will finally whittle itself out. For a while.
If Thompson and Co. get on their horse right now, they might be able to shed some time off that cycle. Congress might need to follow through with whatever actions they've threatened with anti-trust issues....whether they make headway or not.
