Do we still have BCS Bowls?

    http://www.themtn.tv/04/30/12/Knudso...48&feedID=2984

Now, any team in the Top 10 of the final BCS standings would be eligible to play in a BCS bowl game, regardless of its conference affiliation.

We previously had 5 BCS Bowl games right? Do we still have that? Any team in the Top 10 is "Eligible", but are there any guarantees, like there was before if you finish in the Top 10?

i.e. if Texas or OU finishes 15th, could they still be picked by a BCS bowl because of their fan base and power they yield?

Or will it be business as usual, where you have a MW team finish in the top 10 and get snubbed by the BCS bowl?

I'm thinking it will be worse than business as usual...I can't see any MWC team being in the top 15, and they seem to have it set up this way so the little guy won't be a threat like in the past decade or so with Boise, Utah and TCU. All the "playoff" did was further exclude the the non big six conferences.

    Go Asstecks!!! NO, REALLY.......GO! NOW!

Or maybe the non big five conferences. As weak as the Big East is now, it appears that they will be in about the same situation as the MWC in the new "system". They may be slightly better off because of their name and their markets, but not much better. I'm sure Boise St. and SDSU are seriously questioning their decisions to go there now.

Hopefully, it will be a painful fall from grace for SDSU.

Yes, we still have BCS bowls - for a couple of years. (See why correct grammar is important? You don't have to see snarky comments by people like me) Will we? That depends on what you mean by "BCS bowls." Taking it literally, no. In all likelihood, the bowls will revert back to their traditional set-up - unless the new plan utilizes them. If the "play-off" does not utilize the bowl system (a big assumption) the ConfUSA-MWC "champion" will likely get an automatic bid - for the least desirable of the major bowls, which will now include the Cotton, made major to take some of the anti-trust pressure off.

I'll keep it as simple and plain as I can to avoid any confusing hypotheticals.

The year is 2014. This is when the playoff structure is set to start and when the "BCS" starts it's new contract.

The major bowls (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta) are used in semi-final playoff games, leading to a national championship. The four team structure is determined by placement in the Top 25 alone, mainly the top 4 of the top 25 get access to these games.

There is still a bowl system and affliation, but they're solely linked to their own conference contracts and have nothing to do with this playoff....much like they are now with the BCS bowl system.

The concept of a "BCS bowl" will no longer exist after 2014. The big money and invitations will be distributed to the teams deemed worthy by the playoff prerequistes themselves...the old BCS bowls merely a vessel for these psuedo tournament games.
