Superfan Of Lobos Killed In Accident
By Mark Oswald/Journal Staff Writer on Fri, Jun 8, 2012
SANTA FE – Patty Sahd, 98, who had achieved statewide fame as a superfan of the Lobos’ basketball team, was going about her morning ritual in Peñasco on Wednesday – walking to work from her house next door – when she was struck and killed by a pickup.

The Lobo Lair: It's how we roll!!!

Patty and her husband Pete had seats near us in the NW corner of the Pit and always made me feel like a wimp after driving down from first Los Alamos and later from Tesuque in snow storms and they were always there like they had driven across from the west side of the Rio Grand. God rest your soul Patty, I'm sure Pete was waiting for you as you passed over!
Wow leaving NM I had forgotten about Patty. When I was helping out Colson and Bliss she sat right behind me in the first row of chair backs as you go up the ramp. She and her husband were absolutely wonderful people that only missed games when there was real, real, real, bad weather. We would exchange greeting before the game and commence a little after the games along with Mike Roberts. She was the only Aggie that I would tolerate talking about them.
When Patty lost Pete it was very hard to turn and not see him there but her son Randy or Ted (can't remember which one) accompanied her with Pete's passing. Let’s all hope that we are still cheering for the LOBOS when we are 98.
The LOBOS have truly lost a great and wonderful fan!! My condolences to the Sahd family and all their friends in Peñasco and northern NM she will be missed.

Sad news. Sorry to hear that. RIP Patty.
The Journal ran a story on her this past basketball season. At the next game after the story was published, Alford made his way up to her just before the start of the game. He handed her a basketball that appeared to have been signed by the players and staff.

Can you imagine her still being able to work at 98 years young? Heck, I hope that if I live to be that age I am able to still climb out of bed.

That is sad to hear. True Lobo fan indeed. I never met her, but from what I've read so far, I hope I can at least be somewhat a great fan as her and to have half her health, if I live to be her age. Wow! How ironic is that to be healthy enough to keep working and have that happen to her.

a tough mighty tough situation for the community of Penasco to handle.. I have been in the store many times to buy something, Patty was a joy to talk with, she still added up a purchase in her head then check her figures with an old adding machine..Loved by all, now we pray for Mr. Sanchez.

I just returned from Patty's rosary service, it was so sad... she had an ALL Lobo table set up with her autographed Lobo basketball and other Lobo items, a true LOBO FAN ... We miss her already. We prayed.. GO LOBOS

I was sitting about 8 feet away when Alford presented her the ball. I thought it was especially nice that he gave it to her privately. I think 95% of coaches would have made a spectacle of it to show what a great guy he is to recognize her. Not Alford. Much more personal and refreshing.
RIP Patty. You were a true Lobo fan and will be missed dearly.
WOW! What a story...I laughed and cried! Now there's a fan we can all be proud of - just wish she and her husband were able to witness a Sweet 16 or better! RIP!
GO LOBOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIP Patty and condolences to the Sahd family. Having left Penasco over 30 years ago I didn't realize they were Lobo fans till last season during the Lobo games. I saw her and Randy (her son) as the cameras panned out to fans during timeouts.
