I know we've done the Best Burger thread, but did it mention the top 10 list put together by the National Geographic?? Not that the NG is not any great burger authority, but you know I have a reason to mention it. Visitors to the story on the Huffington Post have voted the In-n-Out No. 1. But guess who's No. 2 (at least as I write this)? I mean, how many Albuquerque people are on the Huff Post? Albuquerque fans have Lota reasons to see who's near the top of the list of the country's best burgers. .....

Just another jackpot. Ain't nothing new.
When I was a kid, Lotaburger was the bomb. The soda mix with hamburger was the best, and to end it with the fries with those ketchup cups. Somehow the ketchup tasted better in those little containers. Now not so good. It is Fuddruckers for me.
I hit a lotaburger up every time I pass through NM. Green Chile Cheeseburger. Oh hell yes
Everyone knows where I stand on this so Im not going there... Although I will say I was in San Diego last week while I was dropping my daughter off at Sea World camp (repped with several Lobo shirts while as was out there and wore one on the SDSU campus) I had one day of it so I had 3 Double Doubles over the course of 8 hours and 1 order of Animal fries and I must say that Im pretty done with them for a little while... at least until the next trip
There is NOTHING special about In & Out. Yuck In & Out is just not that good and some of you guys go over board with it.
GO LOBOS!!!
I wish I had twenty thumbs so I could give this thread twenty thumbs down.

I had a Lota Burger tonight for dinner. I enjoyed it. One of the country's best? Not even close.
I live in AZ and dont often frequent In N Out. Its good don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoy it Animal Style...but it doesn't lit a candle to Lotaburger. Ya'll in the 505 are just spoiled with Lotaburger. Cmon its made with Angus Beef so for starters the meat is higher quality and then you can get Green Chile on top of it. You can't top that.
Now I wouldn't mind trying an In N Out with Green Chile on it...That might be interesting but it doesn't light a candle to Lota Burger.
I just think Lota Burger isn't the same since it changed ownership. I don't know if they got new suppliers or what, but it's not what it used to be for me. I still enjoy them, but they're not nearly as good as they used to be. I've also noticed that there's a difference between different Lota Burgers, the consistency isn't there.
What number was in and out?

I live in SF and burgermister isn't that great. Its good but there is 4 or 5 burger places in SF that destroy it. My vote for best burger Ive ever had goes to the Buckhorn down in San Antonio NM
I love Lota, hell, I grew up begging to go to Lota as a kid, but the 7th best burger in the country? That's ridiculous. There are 20 better places to get a burger in Albuquerque alone, much less the rest of the country. Now if we're talking fast food burgers, than maybe I could see it.

The Bison burger in the lounge at the Old Faithful Inn was pretty damn good. It is hard to beat a burger that has green chile on it though.
That list is laughable as hell for man reasons but apparently all the best burgers are either in New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles with the exception of Lota Burger. For whatever reason, I know people like In and Out and its not bad for a fast food place but its not even the best fast food place I've ever been to much less one of the better places overall. As for Lota Burger, that place is just flat out crappy. You can even see in that picture how gross the lettuce looks. I've only been there once, but it was terrible so I really had no reason to go back.
Between Santa Fe and Albuquerue I can think of 3 places with FAR better hamburgers than either of those two. Since I've not been to any other place on that list, I can't really comment about them. In Albuquerque, I'd much rather get a burger from either Nob Hill Bar and Grill (with and egg over easy on it AND bacon - hell yes give me my breakfast burger) or Holy Cow. Holy Cow is pretty damn good, in my opinoin.
But better than either of those two places and actually the best burger I've ever had is Bobcat Bite. That burger is so flavorful and juicy EACH AND EVERY TIME. I would never want to eat at any fast food place over those 3.
Mainly its stupid to put out a list like this unless you're actually going to go visit as many burger places as possible. This seems more like some staff got together and threw a list of their favorite places and the offices are located in San Francisco, New York, and LA.
According to our local Freddie Steak burger restaurant, they're going to expand into abq in 2012. Good burgers.
Oh how I love the burger threads!!!
Something else to try when you have the chance:
I know everybody's favorite burger is the best ever.....regardless of where it resides on the food chain.......HOWEVER -----
If you ever go to the Tractor Brewing Co. in Nob Hill (they don't make food), outside there is always a food truck (ne: roach coach) - The Zingaro - and that guy does some outstanding bugers. You can order at the truck and they will serve you inside the Tractor........
They have your standard green chile cheese burger, but try one of his Asian-styled burgers. Sounds out there, but they are kick-ass good.
Wouldn't lie to you about something this serious.
You can read about The Zingaro on Facebook. Don't mean to be a shill for this guy, but they ARE GOOD. (And Tractor's beer is pretty good too....)
I would not put to much stock in these rankings. Just like you say when some blogs & magazines rank the Lobos. The ONLY reason you like In & Out is because we don't have one. I also don't understand a guy like you that loves Albuquerque so much, you like In & Out better then locals. Just giving you a hard time!
GO LOBOS!!!
I like them because they are fire! Not because I can't have them but point taken. Maybe they drop should we ever get 1. Rex's got hosed.

Buckhorn and Lotaburger is overrated. Lotaburger does have a good breakfast burrito though.. Papa Burgers makes a good green chile burger. Lumpy's makes a very good burger. and the Standard diner Bulldog burger is a must try. very good. Chama River Brewery has a good green chile cheeseburger too.
rhymes with poo... how appropriate!
as a lota fan I was disappointed last week when my lota was more the size of the itsa... tasted delicious but I sure do tire of companies that keep minimizing what we get for our money... it's the new "American Way"...
Mostly I enjoy posting about how much better LB is than the eat and poo because it's fun to see some people get all bent out of shape over ranking a darn hamburger...
GO LOBOS!

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the new burger place right off of Paseo and Wyoming (right next to Mario's)? Can't remember the name right now....
Ive only been to albuquerque once, but have family in silver city. i ate at their lotaburger last year, and pretty much every time i go there. i think its pretty good for a fast food place. in and out and lotaburger are both very good but theres a ton of places that i would call the best before i got to them.
People forget how good Five Guys is. We have a few in the metro area. IMO Five Guys is the best fast food burger and Fuddruckers is the best restaurant burger.
I remember when we didn't have Carl's Junior here in Albuquerque, and according to people living here, it was the best hamburger in the universe. Now that we have it, it's just another Burger King to us. I have a feeling the same thing would happen if In-N-Out expanded out here.

A DOUBLE-DOUBLE TOO FAR.
We are currently in Pasadena and I had a double double my first night here. Although I haven't eaten one since last Summer, I would have to say that the rule of diminishing returns has taken affect because it honestly was just okay and I can easily go the rest of my trip without another one which is something I would have never thought I would say.
On the other hand, Top's Kobe Burger and the Habit Charburger was pretty good although in desperate need of green chile.
And then there is mecca of hot dogs, Pink's which is well worth the hour wait in line.
The Lobo Lair: It's how we roll!!!
I'm at Vintage 423 for lunch today. Think I'll get a burger and I'll right a review when I'm done.
I mean write.
