Two years ago, yes. Now, ....
Anyway, it's like when the object of your sales efforts makes the wrong decision and goes with the other guys when you know that it will probably hurt them in the long run.
But toss in the fact that you've busted your tail to try to make them see the probable negative consequences and they are either too greedy or too stupid to understand, and you just shake your head and move on.

Boise St never had any real ties to the MWC and thus no loyalty, for me I'm glad their gone and now that it's done I wish they were gone this week! SDSU was the tag along kid that was wanted only to guarantee that the BE could get Boise St to go. Utah I understand, TCU I understand, BYU had their feelings hurt and saved some face, Boise St as was said before I could understand last year, but now I don't see it with the sad state of the BE, but the real strange one has to be SDSU, their football program has never been any good since Don Coreal was the coach! I wish all of them get what they deserve and I am glad they are gone. Some good moves some dumb ones, for the last moves...adios tontos!
oops..
GO LOBOS!

Right. The teams that truely made good moves were Utah and TCU. They moved their sports in entirety to one conference, got great TV deals, no divided loyalties. SDSU, BSU and BYU simply said football reigns, all other sports suck! I could care less if we ever play any of those 3 again. Too many good schools to play without having to schedule them!
They are the LeBron of college sports. I don't mind the fact that they left, but HOW they strung the MWC along until the 11th hour really bugs me. I hope their football team goes into the crapper. They will probably lose their coach to a bigger program in the next couple of years anyway and they will return to being laughingstocks of college sports.
Boise can not sustain their football success over the long, long term in my opinion. Sooner rather than later they will come down to earth and will be mediocre at best. I can't wait to see them fall...
it isn't but I think Boise took the best option available
OPTION A:
Screw your olympics but play tougher SOS with Houston, SMU, Uconn, Lousiville, etc
Slightly extra money too and a TV deal
OR
OPTION B
Exchange that by ruining your schedule by playing 3-33 UNM/UNLV/SJSU/enter future MWC team but keep your olympic sports relatively stable.
NO known future TV deal
I think UNM would have done the same thing.
NEW LOBO ORDER
WE ARE NEW MEXICO
They have too much visibility and will have too much money to sink that low. As to whether they remain really high, only time will tell, but as long as they can keep their coach they will be a strong football school - that will have problems with most other sports.
Unfortunately, the school that has been the laughing stock over the past 3 years is UNM - because most people don't give a rat's @$$ about anything other than football. I think Davie will lift the program from the Dreckhaufe (I'll translate that as "manure pile" - to be polite) but it will take 3 years before we are respectable and 4-5 before we have any real chance to be good.
****
In the course of doing a bit of research (the results of which will soon be posted) I saw: in 1999-2000 BSU ranked ahead of UNM in the director's cup standings (didn't check years since that - I just happened to notice that BSU was 84th that year and UNM 86th - and I didn't go any further into the past.)

What's funny and sad for all involved (including the MWC) is that there is absolutely no mention of Boise's decision on home page of ESPN or Sports Illustrated (as of Sunday at 4:15 pm MST).
Hmmm... Call me crazy but I dont think this is over yet. Big Least still could collapse and if it does so BSU could easily escape the conference without having to pay the $5million exit (although never entered) fee. Also I wouldn't be completely surprised if another Western League is started up with the Texas schools going to Big Least and best of MWC..... we'll see but I dont anticipate this story to be over.![]()

I don't see any new conferences starting. The wait for an autobid is seven years for all sports. Realignment isn't over yet, but don't count on any new conferences.
No love for BSU from U of Wyo either.
As Boise State moves on, so should Mountain West, UW

BCS 2.0 is getting really close to locking out anybody not in one ACC, Big Ten, SEC, Big 12 and PAC-12. Just not many spots left
Brian Murphy @murphsturph
Given that those 5 leagues are assured a spot and 2 if a team makes the playoff, not sure Fiesta/Cotton can have tie-ins for space reasons
Brian Murphy @murphsturph
Presidents were lied to. Were shown evidence that new system would be top 12, would improve access for non-AQs. Suckers.
Brian Murphy @murphsturph
If Rose/Champions are semis and top 4 are USC Mich Bama Texas that's 8 spots locked up. Plus ACC champ. Just 3 left pending more tie-ins
