    Season Tickets

I saw on the GoLobos.com website that they've sold about 8,000 tickets with a goal of 15,000. Does anyone know how many they sold last year or in the last couple of years?

I don't remember exact numbers, but I think last year was between 4-5k season tickets. The years before that were higher.

I do expect the General Public to come back to Lobo Football, but it will not be over night. They got burned and embarrassed over and over the past few years. Until the wins happen, I don't expect huge numbers of Season Tickets sold. Sad but true.

Robin...Your absolutely right!!... We, the entire metro community needs to get behind our Lobo football team. I would like to suggest that the lobo Club and or the city's own Chamber of Commerce encourage for every business in town to buy 4 Lobo Tickets to each game and hand them out as promotions in their own business either to employees or customers. We need to so something to kick-start a better attendance number. I do honestly believe that Coach Davie will turn our program around from where Coach Locksley left it...we need to show our support and try to instigate everyone else to join in. I will be there for every Lobo game this year and look forward to seeing a 35,000 minimum group to be there with me. GO LOBOS!!!!

I totally agree with you. Local businesses buying tickets to give to "employee of the week" or to customer or even have a drawing for people each week who come into their business.... there are LOTS of ways to do this!!!

Last season it was in the neighborhood of 11k. Kinda apples and oranges at this point since they went on sale so much earlier this year.

Last year they did not sell 11k Season tickets, no way. There was barely 11k people at every game, with the exception of NMSU.

False. The average for last season was 20,026 and there was not a single game with 11,000 people.

Not true. Maybe not 22,000 but earlier games had more than 11,000. I always go and have no excuses.

According to gohobos.com, the 15k goal this season would be a 30% increase, so the exact number in 2011 was around 10,500.

There may have been 20k tickets sold, but I was at the games and have photos and videos of the stands. NO WAY the last few games had over 10k sitting in stands. Many people were No Shows.

You did count those fans with the sacks over their heads? This might be the difference.

The total sold last year was around 10,500, as Darkside pointed out. The year prior, we sold about 12k.

I don't know where we stood with numbers last year at this time, but by the end of August, we had only sold about 9k tickets. My guess is we're slightly ahead of last year's pace, but not where we need to be to get to 15k. I think you'll see an uptick in sales when you start seeing news stories about the team though. I would guess it will be a bigger uptick than last year -- especially if we see some positive stories about the team from fall camp.

I hope so. I hope people really support the new coach and the team from Game 1.
So far I think Davie and his staff are scoring an A+ on handling the media, and proper behavior in public. Davie is not promising anything, just that he is going to turn the program around. I hope we have an all-out media blitz in August, to get the fans in the stands. And yes, I know winning will do that, but we need to get the stands full from GAME 1 to show the team we are behind them. They are still battered and bruised emotionally after our last 3 seasons. Seeing the fans, hearing the roar of the crowd will go far with curing that issue.

As far as the team goes -- my sources say there is definitely a Love-Hate relationship with the new coaches. Translation - they are getting the butts kicked physically, no nonsense and no favoritism, and real structure.... things that didn't happen in past few years.

Last yr we had a little over 10,000 season tickets sold and a total avg. attendance of about 20,000 sold per game. The fact that they was considerable less is irrelevant and difficult to accurately measure from an Accounting perspective. Tickets sold are the official numbers. Hard to count actually heads in the stadium. I agree it might inflate things.....but UNM get's the same amount of money/revenue from no-shows who bought tickets AND from those who actually show up. So distinguishing between the two is a moot point.

All that matters are the gate receipts.....nobody really cares or counts butts in seats.

Since we sold 10,000 season tickets last yr.....that means we have 2,000 season tickets left to sell in order to reach LAST YRs quota. Obviously we are not gonna reach the 15,000 season ticket goal that is suggested on golobos.com.

Wrong again Spana bro. There is a big difference in parking/concession revenue between 20k legit and 20k announced but only 13-14k butts in seats. Not to mention the aesthetic look of the stadium. I promise there are folks on south campus that care about actual attendance.

Maybe they do care. I am just saying when it comes to facts and figures and real numbers....the only best real and accurate measurement is tickets sold since that can be quantitative. I doubt UNM has a lackey out there at the stadium counting heads. Can you imagine trying to count 15,000+ folks coming in at different times and leaving the game at different times. Same goes for student attendance since it is impossible to predict how many students show up since it varies. Would be a tedious and boring job to count each butt in the stands. That is why it is easier and probably more accurate to count tickets sold.

Regardless, the official attendance annpouced is ticket sold.

And I know the PLAYERS care more about how many people show up for the game than how many tickets sold. Nothing is worse than for the players as to run out of that tunnel and see a stadium that is 1/4 full. That is one reason that it hurts to see so many people show up late, too. The PLAYERS care, why can't the fans care?

I think they spend a lot more time on game management than you think Spana. Rewatch the NM Bowl. Siembieda can put out his bogus attendance numbers, but he knows they won't fly if all you see on TV is empty seats. Notice the camera angles, banner locations, etc. Everything is meticulously placed to make the stadium look fuller than it actually is.

It's pretty easy to do if anyone cares enough to count butts in seats. You could give one of those hand counters to every ticket taker. Tear the ticket the first time it enters the stadium. Have the ticket takers only count the first time the ticket enters. Or you could get old fashioned turnstiles which have mechanical counters in them.

But this being the 21st century the easiest way is to have people with ticket scanners at every entrance. Each ticket has an area that's scanned to determine if the ticket is valid. Let the computer do the counting and sorting between first entry and re-entry.

shouldn't be that hard to count heads... just need to USE the ticker counters already in the turnstyles... should be close enough... 80/90% accurate i would think?
