I have never posted on here but don't be surprised if you hear that Ronnie Daniels is joining the Lobos. I received some information from someone that had lunch with him today that he will be contacting UNM soon and will do what ever it takes to join the team.
Doesn't mean that Davie will necessarily want to deal with him and his past problems. If he wanted to join UNM, he should have went to Davie a while ago and said he'd do whatever it takes. I guess he could enroll and try to walk on and see what happens. Better do it pretty quick, though. Davie doesn't mess around and doesn't want distractions.
I agree Mike. Why the wait?
If you were truly serious about yourself and the program why not start this process in the spring? Who knows, maybe there were already discussions and someone said to come back after fall camp?
But if he was just waiting around for no good reason then I would questions his commitment to football.
Having said that. If there were other going's on's that I am not privy to then I would welcome him to this team yesterday.

He's getting an awfully late start to make a run of it this season, unless as Mark said there is more to the story than we know. It's very difficult to not give a kid with Daniel's talent a shot. I definitely trust Davie will act in the best interest of the team when it comes to discipline matters. If he did give Ronnie a shot, you can guarantee it would be a zero tolerance situation. Interesting to see how it plays out.

He played for Tech last season. The thing he's missing out on is the practice time that is already under way to keep him in playing shape, acclimate him with his new team, and familiarize himself with the playbook. Whether he made contact in the spring or is just doing it now makes no difference in terms of his playing this year. That was never going to happen.
Remember: pillage first, THEN burn!
We have Pressley, Carrier, Madrid, Rogers, AND Briggs next year in 2013, all of them returning. Add to that the 2013 recruits as well.
I see a diverse pistol set and real run blocking formations with Lenz reviving "the hitmen" mentality to the O-line with a roster that's four deep.
I don't have an outside itch to wave the NM high school football flag with talented walk-ons already on the team.
Why do I want this kid again? Someone please tell me? Why do I invite torment into a locker room that's on the straight and narrow? Because he said pretty please with sugar on top? Honestly. I have no interest in a moral victory, a tv mini-series story, or a waste of resources.
Why give him the time of day when it's MORE than apparent that he needs UNM more than we need him. It's practically a donation.
He can play linebacker too. Thats if hes willing to make the switch. Our backfield is loaded as it is.

Because he's a kid and IF he is willing to walk the walk now, most would like to see him get a shot here. Not saying he is or isn't going to fly straight, or that I know where he sets. That will be a Davie call if he shows up trying to get on. Based on what I have seen of Davie's actions, he will have to have to be saying the right things and show he has changed just to get a foot in the door. He makes it here, he will have earned the shot! Just my 2 cents. :-)
Go Lobos! Go Erskine & Shump! Go Lucas! Go Cam!
Counting the recent suspensions and the possibly injury of Julian Lewis, that leaves us with fifteen current DB's and CB's in the secondary. If we were still running the 4-2-5 that would be ideal. That's three deep at every spot. We have 15 guys to fill 12 holes in the 3-4's depth chart and only 4 of them will see the field without rotating in and out sporatically as backups, nickel/dime formations or special teams additions.
Linebacker is a little more feasible but let's face it: Unless the kid is a lineman/tight end we're frothing with walk-ons and they're filling in our skill player depth chart fairly surprisingly. It's actually pretty cool. There's still another tryout at the end of August as well.
The golobos.com roster has EIGHT running backs (sort by position). Eight! Nine if you count Carlos Wiggins as a RB and not a WR. Where is he going to go?

The kid really messed up - one more strike and he's out. But if he's sincere and has made a real change in his life, he deserves one more chance. He needs UNM more than UNM needs him, but make no mistake, the kid has the talent to quickly climb the depth chart if he dedicates himself. He's an extraordinary talent.

Would Davie welcome Daniels with his past issues after he just suspended two players indefinitely AND made another leave the team?
Seems a little unlikely to me but who knows...
Maybe for next season?
See if you can tell he wants to be here or not. I'm not up to Tweeter lingo. Maybe some of you who tweet can translate. LOL!!!

I dont have an issue with any athlete thinking he can play for money. That's the goal while earning an education. If we want to be a bigtime program then you have to recruit kids who want to be bigtime. Works both ways. I promise you, Davie sells kids on his ability to gpmake them men as well as get them ready to play at the next level. Confidence in yourself and confidence in the program.

I think it possible, just as I think it possible the two suspended have an opportunity to return to the team. It will not be easy for any of them, but it would probably be good for all of them. I am sure should any of them get the opportunity to rejoin the team they will have to perform a great deal of "activities" to gain their access.
Go Lobos! Go Erskine & Shump! Go Lucas! Go Cam!
If you're reading these posts RD, take heed... you have an opportunity here to help yourself for your future, as well as UNM's... if you decide you really want to be a Lobo... to be a TEAM PLAYER FIRST... here's your chance... don't blow it because you may not get another... good luck son!
Got my eleven tickets in the mail friday. Did not get the correct parking passes. Called and they were very friendly and working on getting this corrected.
I believe that's fair, but you have to consider the situation from all sides.
1. The coaching staff have a complete re-configuration of a football program to deal with before they even get to Daniels (in the event that he messes up). The plate is more than full and they're getting a handle on the team's discipline as we speak.
2. We have a full array of RB's (8) and three of them will have more experience than Daniels if he comes in as a sophomore. UNM has everything to lose and Daniels has everything to gain. If he's a bad influence it diverts the staff's efforts when it should be focused somewhere else (playbook, training, recruiting) other than tending to their roster. Why even introduce the possibility of that at this crucial time?
3. This kid will have one of the shortest leashes with one of the hardest reputations to overcome: drug abuse. We have players that need the reps right now because of the sophomore-junior gap.
My main point is this: Beyond the hometown comeback kid story, what is UNM getting in return for the risk it's taking? If Daniels enters the fold and does as he's told, will he even be able to crack the top 3 on the depth chart with Carrier, Rogers, Pressley, Clayton and Briggs in 2012/2013? Will the kid start in the next two years? Briggs has one hell of a good chance to start in 2013. Can Daniels hang with a kid that can run in the 4.5 range at 220?
This objectively sounds more like a pet project when you consider the situation. A pet project that would be at a delicate time frankly. UNM shouldn't open itself up to disaster without at least a equal trade for what it's getting. Breaking even on a solid player wouldn't be enough in this case. This kid needs to knock it out of the park. If he's an automatic starter: Yes, bring him in with conditions. If not, we have 25 scholarships to find something else in 2013.

I understand your points, and honestly, I cannot tell you how good he is compared to these other guys. Is he a risk? Of course. Is it possible he could end up being a star running back here? I think he could, IF he has his butt straightened out. Will Davie want to deal with him? Idk. It is Davie's call if he shows up knocking at the door, but we need bodies and he needs us more. Davie will have much to consider, how good is the kid, will he really fly right, and on and on and on. I am content to let Davie make the decision and hope for the best. :-)
Go Lobos! Go Erskine & Shump! Go Lucas! Go Cam!
It's not about winning right now it is about building a program and you do not begin to build with those that are known to have had issues.
He would have to sit out this year regardless, transfer rules.

Ronnie was born to play runningback. If he was to play here, that's the position he would play. I think it really all depends on if he dropped his prima donna attitude yet, which may never happen.
