Davie is actually coaching... Making changes and adjustments!
As a run 1st offense, you need faster O-lineman that can get off the two, and anytime you have a 350lb plug in the middle on D, it limits opposing offenses to run oustside, or throw it up... But if you got a center getting blown off the line by a 350 lb beast!!! Even better!!
Smart move Coach!!! Smart move!!!
Also, defenses win championships is right. So as a coach Davie is strengthing the D to counter balance a relatively tiny Offense...
Aqua went both ways on the line in high school. The defense could use a good anchor at nose tackle to back up Davis and Ugo in the middle. Not a bad move. Here's his high school recruitment video again. Hudl has him listed at a 5.9 40 time.
He fires quick, which is good to see, and a bit surprising for a guy of his size. It looked like he does a good job of using his hands to disengage from blocks, instead of using his size advantage to simply overpower guys. That's a definite advantage because he won't have that advantage at this level. He didn't really penetrate much, but it looks like that defense played in a read-and-react type system. With his quick start, size, and hand work, he could really be a dominant force in a penetrating defense.
I'm liking this move more and more.
If he anchors the D-Line and explodes up field like he does as an OL he'll definitely make a huge impact. Give him a full year of the new and improved Strength & Conditioning program he'll be a beast come next season.
