After watching tonight's game between BYU and Boise, I believe the Lobos have a great opportunity to shock the world. Their offense can't move the ball and I think the option can cause some fits for their pretty strong defense. If we can beat State this week, there is no reason why we can't have 35K or more at that game.
I feel like an idiot! But I am an idiot so it kinda works out!
Air Force gave them all they could eat last year. Their option really did give them a bit of trouble. The BYU game was an above average defensive struggle, but they have slowed on their offense so far this year.
I'm not going to shout it from the rooftops, but I'm confident we can give them a good game and hang with the Broncos for as long as our secondary can carry us.

I think the recipe on the option is out (thanks Texas Tech...), play the pitch and force BR to keep the ball, then hit him hard. I really don't see either the option offense or BR (or both) lasting the whole season.
One flaw in your observation, we don't have BYU's defense. And that is years of recruiting 3 to 4 star players there.
but, I think the point is valid. I have seen Boise St twice this year. This is not your fathers Boise St team. This one is relatively pedestrian. Doesnt mean we wont lose by 50 but I think it could be a mucher closer game than the oddsmakers will predict. I just wish they didnt have 10 days to get ready for our offense
I watched the game last night also and saw Boise as a beatable team. I guessed it would be a close one with BYU and it was, neither team could get anything going. Our Defense will be the key, as well as getting back some of our key players. It sounded like to me that those key players should be back next week.
A BIG win at NMSU is important in many ways.

I agree with all of your posts. The key definitely will be if our defense can stop the big plays.

I thought the NMSU game was NEXT?!
The Boise reference is relevant, since they played last night and they are our next opponent.
I watched that game last night and also saw a Boise team that is nothing close to what they have been the last few years. Offensively, they were very vanilla and were really not able to establish the line of scrimmage. I just didn't see the same assertiveness or tempo control they've had in recent years. They hurt themselves with mistakes too -- uncharacteristic for Boise in recent years. BYU's defense is good, but not that good.
Defensively, they shut down BYU and their first time starter at QB, but they did struggle when BYU went to a read option type of game on their last drive. Hill hurt them with several long runs on that drive. BYU's offense was very bad though. My general observation of Boise's defense is that their nose tackle is a beast, but they don't seem as big and physical as they've been in recent years -- especially in the secondary.
Does any of this mean we have a chance to beat them next week? I would not want to answer that until after this Saturday. I still don't really know what we bring to the table.
One game at a time...![]()
Im just hoping we stay close or win at nmsu right now. Lol but boise state does look beatable. Would be inane to have a winning record after 5 games lol not likely, but possible.
The MWC doesn't look that strong this year, to my observation. If we had 2-3 years of solid recruiting and a solid coach for those years we would have made it to a bowl. But we are stuck with the hand that was dealt. It is hard to compare us to BYU and Boise that have solid programs and two best defenses in the nation. Boise looked beatable but BYU was doing much of the work to make it look that way. Of course, the coach of BYU was extremely successful with New Mexico defense when he was here.
Winning or losing tomorrow probably makes a difference in attendance of 10,000 one way or the other for next week.
Boise seems to have trouble with physical team. Ie MSU & BYU......that being said UNM is not a very physical team at this point in time. Unfortunately we won't get within 30 points of BSU.
I think you're all high if you think we can beat BSU this year. Sure they're not as good as last year. They beat us last year 45-0, but they were capable of beating us 66-0. This year we're better and they're not as good. This means we have a chance to close the gap to something like a loss of 42-13. The gap is closing, but don't delude yourselves into thinking we're going to win that game. Dismissed.
Our defense is only as good as our ability to tackle!! Boise State's offensive line is hugh and really opened up some big holes, BYU was able to respond quickly and stuff many of those inside runs with a minimum gain if any. Hopefully, we will be healthy with no serious injuries when we play them. We could possibly give them a good game if our offense is "clicking". I will be there supporting our Lobos and ask everyone to do so also.....Bring a friend!! GO LOBOS!!!
Not to piss on anyone's parade, but a down Boise is still good for a 40+ point ass kicking of us.
