    Quick Impressions

    • Chase Clayton needs more touches.
    • So does Carlos Wiggins.
    • I'm really glad to see B.R. get all the snaps at QB. Nothing against Cole, but as the old saying goes, "If you have 2 quarterbacks, you don't have any."
    • Rashad Rainey was an absolute steal
    • I love how much we passed the ball early on. It really kept the defense off balance. I wish we'd pass a little more.
    • Flash in the wildcat was a very nice wrinkle. Kudos to DeBesse for getting creative to get the ball in his hands.
    • Toby Ball impressed.
    • Destry Berry is crucial to our secondary. He is far and away our best corner. He had a couple of real nice open field hits tonight.
    • Overall, our tackling in space was much improved.
    • I'd love to see more of Jamal Merritt, even after Young and Raymer are healthy. He had some nice plays both in coverage and against the run.
    • David Anaya looked nice on special teams. That's crucial when teams kick away from Chase, as I suspect will happen fairly regularly from now on.
    • The Aggies are back on the losing side of the Rio Grande Rivalry, and all is right with the world.
"I wish we played in front of a crowd at home like this." - Bobby Knight on playing in The Pit.

    well said.

I expected to see more 2nd team guys in the 4th quarter but my husband said he thought Davie wanted the starters to play a full game as training for future games. Never thought of it that way.

Has Lucas Reed even touched the ball this year?

Yes. He has a catch for four yards. However, just think how good this offense could be if we passed more.

He has been blocking more this season, very effectively I might add.

I know he has been blocking more.. and I'm sure his blocking has helped with the running game which has been really really good this year. But it's just so surprising... Lucas Reed was so damn good 2 years ago i can't figure out why they haven't been trying to get him the ball a little more... 2, 3, maybe 4 times a game anyway. Maybe they will as they add more wrinkles to the offense.

I have an idea that Reed is going to have some very critical pass receptions in future games. I have been to three of the games and watched the Tech game on Fox. I have the impression that this coaching staff is going to show as little of their offense as is necessay so as to surprise teasm in the future. NFL scouts know he can catch a ball, one handed if necessary, now they will see what a complete player he is.

I agree about getting certain ppl more touches, but its also the beauty of the offense. Spreading the ball around! But when the hand is hot, you gotta feed em!

I still think Reed will be more involved as the season goes on. Holbrook will have to find him more when the Lobos play some of the better teams and the ground game is not dominating.

The kid is still the 17th best TE prospect in the 2012 draft preseason (Steele).

And that is when he was listed at 215lb. There's no way in hell he's 215 now. 230lb, minimum.

Scouts are going to get a load of him in the off season. He's just adding blocking to his resume.

    ----

With Flash out our leading receiver has been Carlos Wiggins. Good for him, he's undervalued as a RB/WR. Good hands.

There was a nice little blurb at the end of an article in the Journal today.

    http://www.abqjournal.com/sports/201...adversity.html

A MUTUAL THANK YOU: Davie said senior tight end Lucas Reed came to the head coach’s office on Sunday to thank him for Saturday’s victory over the Aggies. It was the first win over NMSU in Reed’s playing career.Reed, in past years a prime target in UNM’s passing game, has caught only one pass this season and had none thrown to him against the Aggies.
“I said, ‘Why are you thanking me? I’m thanking you,’” Davie said. “Here’s a guy that I think is a potential NFL player. … coming in and thanking me for this game and winning this game.”
Reed and fellow senior tight end Chris Biren, Davie said, had outstanding games as blockers in Las Cruces.

    — This article appeared on page B1 of the Albuquerque Journal
Which is awesome and just shows he has totally bought into what Davie is doing. So obviously Reed is very happy with things. I'm thinking Reed will get the ball thrown to him a few times against Boise. Maybe Davie has been holding off on throwing to Reed so Boise wouldn't have any tape.
