I gotta say that I'm damn proud of our guys and our fans, well except those that threw crap on the floor.
What a great game, and was priveleged to be a part of it.
I always take every loss hard, and will shut my self from Lobo coverage for a few days to speed up the healing process
But I gotta say regardless of the refs or BYU, I was just happy after all was said and done on how hard the team, and fans fough and cheered for the game Tuesday night!
I'm so happy I played hooky, win or lose we're all Lobos till the end!!!
GO LOBOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fans need to bring their A game on Tuesday against UNLV, this is a must win. We're going to have be as tough as we were against BYU and hopefully a few more shots will fall for the team.
Great post, Philly!! I know it's not a popular sentiment to admit that the BYU game was a great game, but to be honest about it, that was my favorite game of the season. The crowd was intense and passionate, the coaches were intense, the players were intense, the refs were ... uh never mind, the cheerleaders were intense, the hot dog vendors had their game faces on, the sportswriters were ... uh never mind. But it was one of those classic games with big plays, big calls, lots of controversy, etc., . I guarantee you that 20 years from now, people will still remember this one. I liked being part of a great college atmosphere. One of the beauties of following this team is that you get the special treat of experiencing one of the best college atmospheres in the land at the Pit. I was just as upset about the outcome as anyone else, but man that type of atmosphere really makes you feel alive. I'm looking forward to more of those types of games, except with a positive ending.

If you were at the BYU game and did not think you watched a great college basketball battle you should save your money, head to Sante Fe and watch the opera next season. The game might not have been pretty but it was an old fashioned barn burner.
i agree brooklyn...it was intense start to finish...we played hard and byu played hard...could have gone either way...we haven't seen many games like that around here for a while.
'...the Pit is just God awful uncomfortable for a visiting team.'
...he yells, "No one comes to the hoop now, Melvin. No one!", Harv Schmidt to Mel Daniels
“They’re loud and they get on you. They know everything about you. They know your mom’s name.”, jimmer fredette.
...Bobby Knight was screaming at his starters for being late. "We're getting our #!&$@$ kicked! Because you were late!".
I'm sorry I didn't see this thread earlier but I agree 100% with all you guys. I cheered, jeered, clapped and whistled as loud as I could during the game. I was really disappointed with the loss, but I had a good time.
After the game I felt disappointed but I also felt at peace because I feel like everyone (team and fans) gave it all they had but just came up short. I even congratulated some BYU fans in the parking lot & on the walk back to the Vagabond. I was sorry to see so many Lobo fans let their anger for the refs spoil such a cool experience. I can't wait till Tuesday so we can do it all over again! Go Lobos!

My thoughts:
It was a helluva game... and it was so because it took every ounce of energy from both teams and the fans. I didn't like the outcome, I didn't like the non-call (Plaisted mauling Gary), I didn't like it especially when Plaisted was just handed two free-throws on a mild call (compared to what they [the refs] ignored on the next possession), and I thought the game was called very unevenly and very inconsistent. But, that was not the reason why we lost...
What made the game even more amazing to me was how close the game stayed besides the fact that we shot very poorly from the FT line, and even worse from beyond the 3 pt. line. Iron out one of those issues and we win hands down.
However, the argument that the refs didn't impact this game and especially the argument that the fouls were even is to admit you don't know much about the game of basketball. An even foul count does not necessarily mean an evenly called game. If I play you in one-on-one, and I foul you each possession, and you foul me on every other possession, will you buy that if we each get called for the same number of fouls that it has been an evenly called contest, and will you agree with me that it has also been called in a fair manner? I don't think so.
I think it is very clear this game was impacted by the refs, but in a game like this, you must adjust, and you must find other ways to win. The Lobos adjusted, they dominated nearly every stat other than FT% and 3PtFG%, and they almost won the dang thing anyway.
Learn from this, and the Lobos have taken another step in the maturation process, and perhaps that translates to good things down the road, maybe even this year.

Remember: pillage first, THEN burn!
I was happy we got one last ditch effort with .1
No one would be bitching if JR's shot went in.....no one would be crying about the refs.....and no one would argue we played better that BooYU.
People wouldve said how great of a win and how great we played!
On the MTN today, an announcer made the comment "BYU played just a little bit better"
Thats only because JRs shot didnt fall

Remember: pillage first, THEN burn!

The BYU game was the first game in a long time I was hoarse afterwards. Extremely disappointed, but physically exhausted. The kind of exhausting that was common when we had a lot of "Pit" games. Hopefully Tuesday will be the same atmosphere, with a different outcome!
