Lane Milligan, C from Cherry Creek HS and Reece Weber, P-OF from Grandview HS in the Denver area who were 1st team All Colorado (all categories) selections by the Denver Post will coming to UNM next fall. Both bat left handed and were on teams that finshed in the top 4 in the 5A state tourney. Weber is from the same HS that sent Alex Allbritton to UNM.
Weber hit .405 for the season with 6 HR and 26 RBI's. I do not see him as top pitcher and would need to hit to get some playing time. Weber is 6-0, 185 lbs.
However, after watching him three times, I feel Milligan is the real deal. He is a hard nosed catcher who can hit, throw, catch and runs real well. He hit .554 for the season with 4 homers and 35 RBI's. Time will tell, but I feel he can take over for Mitch Garver right away and keep Real at 1st base. Milligan is 6-2, 185.
This is good news, hopefully they'll deliver. Just for fun, here's my proposed lineup for next season:
C -- Real/Milligan
1B -- Real/Padilla??
2B -- Haggerty
SS -- Holley
3B -- Meek
LF -- Padilla/Kamtz
CF -- Harris
RF -- Pustay
Who's the pitcher, mckpave?
Pitchers.....yeah, right, that's always the tough one. Lemme take a crack at four starters.
If McCasland doesn't come back for his senior year I think Duree moves up into the rotation.
I'll even up the ante a bit more by proposing my actual batting lineup, here goes......
1. Harris (CF)
2. Haggerty (2B)
3. Pustay (RF)
4. Real (1B)
5. Padilla (LF)
6. Kamtz (DH)
7. Milligan (C)
8. Holley (SS)
9. Meek (3B)
McCsland will not return.
I think Andre vigil will b battling for a starting spot, or at least get a lot of playing time next year. He is solid defensively and has speed and power on the offensive end.
One thing I noticed that raised my eyebrow is that Hags and Holley have both been at SS, not sure the reasoning behind this, guessing it's just for the fall. Padilla has been back at first instead of OF with Real behind the plate. It's hard figuring out who's who with no numbers but I've tried to ID some of the new kids. Jake Cole is a big presence on the mound, I liked what I saw there too, he's got some heat, could be pretty dominant. Andrew McWilliam has been at third, really tall kid, good fielder, needs to pack some meat on his bones and he could be a monster at the plate with that leverage.
I think one of the big things for the team in the off season will be filling the leadership void that Garver et.al held. John Pustay, Chase Harris, and Alex Real hopefully will step in and plug this hole to create some synergy.
Lastly, the lights are freakin awesome!! Very well done.
Did McCsland come back? Pitching always is a concern. Was really hoping he would be a mainstay in the rotation.
