1st year coach -- no way! I'm not buying it. Dude drips with confidence, charisma and has done an amazing job. Don't lose sight of how fortunate we are to be Lobo fans. Now -- on to #unfinishedbuiness! Really excited to see how he puts his mark on seasons 3 & 4.

He signed everyone of the kids we have right now and those kids he has been coaching and they are doing a great job and have won more then any other "recruits" we have ever had. These current "Top" recruits are doing pretty good right now.

I was one who was critical of the hire after we lost the NMSU game. I was doubting coach at that time. I wasn't sure we made the right hire. So far as to be ridiculing Steve Alford's comment about Coach Neal when he stated ' he was ready' ( for a head coaching job).
At that time, I wasn't buying it.
Yet somehow Noodles has made this train stay on track, even after a somewhat shaky beginning. He's just getting better and better on a game by game basis. The next few years are going to be special. And, like I posted in a new thread, I believe Saturdays game will also determine who will be coach of the year in the conference.

I hate it when I pre-mature 3$-,7l8 too. especielly when injuries are involved and two of your starters are out for a combined 5 games.

He is just 3 wins away from having the most wins ever for a first year Lobo head coach--currently tied for 2nd with Dave Bliss. This is a great time to be a Lobo fan!

If I'm not mistaken Noodles will be the Lobo's first head coach to take a team into the NCAA tournament in his first season.

    Well done Coach!!!

Sure, Noodles had a lot to do with it and he has done an amazing job of coaching this thing through, but without that Steve guy we wouldn't even be in this position.

Fair enough, though Noodles and plenty of others at UNM also had a big hand in it. I think he took UNM as far as he could and we're now in very capable hands.

I think coach has really steadied the ship and has the team rolling in the right direction! He has done a great job with our high powered offense and the d has really stepped up too! I give coach a lot of credit but can't go without saying how the players have really bought into the system the coaching staff has put in place! Great Job!! Go Lobos!!

It's really fun watching this team and Coaching staff grow as the season developes. Think about it. This team has lost two MWC games by a total of four points. By one on the road against Boise and three at home. Coach Neal and his staff have done a excellent job with this team and it's not over yet!

One win from tying and 2 from taking 1st place with 25. Alford had 24.

I read a post last night from back in December where the poster said his coaching is in question and that he's not sold yet. I've said it all year. More losses because he's learning in his first year. He's going to sling shot in his second to third years because he knows what he's done wrong in practice and on the floor. He's a quick study and has said he's changed things up in the offense this year and you can tell. And watch out for Cullen!

i agree that this is a great accomplishment but unlike most of our other new head coaches, he inherited a strong program with a tremendous group of returning players.

As many of you know I also follow North Carolina hoops....well on their message board this morning there was a discussion about Wake Forest. Many suggested that they are going to fire Bedilizk (sp) A poster has already suggested that Wake should be looking at Noodles.....FYI, our coach is going to be highly sought after!

After taking over one of the worst teams in recent program history 15-17 (4-12 in MW). Last place in the Mountain West.

Maybe we can get a few more ungrateful, short sighted, ignoramuses on here to bitch about Alford building the program we're enjoying today. Get a clue.

Great job so far Coach Neal, keep it up.

I think comparing noodles first year to Alford's isn't really fair. Alford took over a 14-15 team and won 24 games. Noodles took over a 29 win team is on track to do the same and hopefully more. I'm a fan of noodles but the real way to compare him to his predecessor is to see how he does in March. We all know how Alford did.

That's a really good point King, but not sure you fully explained it.

Kind of, I'd prefer to compare the two after Coach Neal completes his 5th or 6th year as this program's head man.
