No problemo. We posted at the same time. The whole thing will get a crazy reaction here. Bet on it! EmotWOW
Well, at least it isn't Fart Sniff.
There must be an echo in the Lair today. Or maybe it's deja vu all over again...I feel like I've seen this thread before. :Afun)

Didn't bother me LIDO! I hope Stevens does a good job. I hated his writing for years, but then about 4 or 5 months before he was gone from the Trib, I thought he got pretty good. I won't make a judgement yet, but maybe I should have held off on the poll question about Krebs until after this came out!!! ;-)
Go Lobos!
Yes - and no."A lot of people may be thinking that I'm changing teams - kind of like Brett Favre,"
I can't decide between this: EDDowner or this: :zzzzz

It's always Lobo roundball season . . .
What the _ _ _ _??? Lido, sup dood?
he looks so happy in that photo attached to the article lol.
i remember him on that krqe show where they had debates at the end. he never once liked or agreed with anything truely positive about UNM. always had to be on edge and against the norm , to stand out i guess. it got annoying
My impression is that UNM is getting proactive with providing news coverage. If the Tribune folds and the Santa Fe New Mexican quits covering sports, that means that we're down to 1 major newspaper in the state that covers the program. This is UNM's attempt to add additional coverage on the internet side of the media coverage. The world is evolving to a new reality. Stevens is the beneficiary of this evolution. Since UNM is signing his payroll checks, I think you'll find that his stories will be a bit more Lobo friendly than when he was at the Tribune. Count on it. The Linz is about to become one of our favorite writers. It's gonna happen - get used to it, folks.
Roob, I kinka think your hitting the nail on the head. I think part of the reason his last few months at the trib were positive, was that he knew he would be job hunting, and his negative style would not have flew real well. As it was, he left on a positive note, and who would have thunk it, but he can be a positve kinda guy. My complaints about him before were not just his negativity, which is OK at times, but a total lack of fairness, or even correctness in some of his articles.
Go Loobs! Gosh, this is getting weird, Go Utes, Go Richard Stephens!
Blah, Yuck!EmotWOW

Did Lido get mad while I stepped away because I did some mod'ing?
Apologies, Lido, I left two of your threads up and the one in the Flan's forum would actually be of service to those posters.

I am not mad at him about the post. He did yank my chain though. I thought Denver had somehow won another superbowl. :-)
Go Lobos!
Another case related to the dying print media, part of the evolving world you're talking about roob.

Good hire!
I am honestly glad to hear that he found gainful employment. I don't know about his family status, but if he has a wife and children in school it would be a tough situation to be uprooted by a job loss. So it's also good that he's able to stay in Albuquerque.
Their published work is fair game, IMO, and I do sometimes wish the local hacks had chosen a different line of work or had been hired by different papers -- but unless he's a truly evil person (I don't know, maybe he's a bad guy) I don't wish anybody to fall on hard times by having their livelihood taken from them.
Talking Lobo sports on the interwebs is for fun, people losing their jobs is real life -- and real tough.

I have corresponded with Stevens by e-mail before. I sent him comments about some articles he wrote and, to his credit, he answered every one at length and personally. He assured me he was and is a Lobo fan but his job was to "stir the pot". He did a darn good job of it! I think he is a good writer and UNM made a good hire.
Richard Stevens is a good man and a good hire. He brings experience and a writing talent that I'm sure will be directed towards a positive Lobo image. I'm sure he has his skeptics and doubters....But, .....Let's give him a chance to show us what he can and will do to present a favorable University of New Mexico in all sports. And Richard, Don't you dare let us down!!!!!
That is exactly why I did not like him, he always tried to "stir the pot". When all you want to do is stir the pot, create contrversy, you don't have to be fair. You don't have to be reasonable. You don't have to reasearch and be factual, and you dang sure don't have to be a fan. Near the end, when he was fair, I really liked him. I assume, because of who his new boss is, he will be positive, and hopefully factual and truthful.
Go Lobos!
