    UC Davis @CSU

CSU is up 32-26 at half. It looks pretty evenly matched. Nystrom looks a bit stronger than she did the other night.

CSU is concentrating on taking away UCD's best post player. UCD missed a boatload of easy layups in the 2nd quarter to help out.

CSU down by 1 after 3rd quarter. Foul trouble forced them to play subs who looked pretty woeful.

CSU loses 58-57 on a missed jumper from Nystrom.

Didn't see any of it, but looked at stats. CSU made two more FGs and one more FT, but six less treys.

Tryggedsson fouled out early in the 4th quarter and Gustavsson had 4 fouls. It was hard to play aggressively with so many touch fouls being called. The same was true for the other side too, though. UCD's best player fouled out without scoring a point. But several of CSU's fouls were from guarding her aggressively.

UCD had more talented depth. Based on what I saw this post-season, CSU better get recruiting because their returning players aren't likely to be able to compete with Boise State, Wyoming, and UNLV. I know they have a 6-6 player coming in from Denmark who sounds pretty good and some redshirts, but their best asset may be their coach.

The game was lost in the 3rd quarter when Tryggedsson and Gustavsson were on the bench with 4 fouls. The Rams led by 7 but didnt score for over 5 minutes and UC Davis scored the final 8 of the quarter to take the lead. Rams go scoreless for 5 minutes in every game they play. They scratched and clawed to get a chance to win but it was time for the fairy tale to end. The reality is that this year's CSU team was painful to watch for long stretches.

Injuries are way worse than you'll ever know. Nystrom has a bulging disc. Austgulen a torn thumb ligament on her shooting hand, Tryggedsson a torn patellar tendon, and Tvrdy has a broken bone in her foot. Thats four of five starters with more than minor injuries. Only Gustavsson and Myann Hamm are anywhere near 100% in the top 6. Callie Kaiser separated her shoulder earlier in the year and Veronika Mirkovic is playing after breaking her foot in January.

We'll see what happens next year. I have a lot of faith in the coaching staff and their ability to develop players in the off-season. Rams lose two huge ones in Ellen and Elie but they'll be a lot deeper next year with the returning players and the 4 redshirts, all of whom were good enough to play this year.

It'll be nice to not be picked for 1st next season.

There's still spring recruiting, but right now I'm not sure CSU won't be picked #1 based simply on history. UNLV and Boise State probably have more talent, but they both have a history of playing very inconsistently during the regular season. Wyoming should be good, but there's no guarantee Roberts will be as effective next year as she was this year when she was healthy. UNM and Fresno State will be competitive, but will need help from newcomers to break into the top 4.

With UNM, I think it depends on what post player(s) Bradbury is able to sign this spring.

If your Rammies were gonna do anything, it had to be 2016. They had good depth. And a #11 seed is as good as this league can hope for right now. You got a #6 opponent at a true neutral site. That makes it much easier to win a game than a #13 or #14 where right out of the gate you gotta go beat somebody on their field.

You are correct. That was a good team that could easily have been seeded higher. The USF coach said as much.

The truth is that no one in the conference as it is made up today except Colorado State, San Diego State, and New Mexico has ever won an NCAA tournament game in the last 17 years. And no one since San Diego State won two in 2010.

I was surprised to see that Fresno State never won a game. They went seven years in a row starting with Wiggins and ending with Pebley's two years. But went 0-7.

Being in the WAC they were probably always a 16 or 15 seed. Same problem NMSU has. NMSU vs Stanford was a lot closer game than Kansas St vs Stanford.
