Do the transfers surprise me? Nope... Regardless of who the coach is, this is the new norm of college bball.

I'd be kind of shocked to see Joe. F. leave being that he'll be a senior and probably start at the 4 most games with MacDougall at the 5. I hope those rumors are false and he sticks around. I think he'd be around a double/double if he's given 30+ minutes a game, as well as C-Mac.

It's a bummer to see Mathis leave, I think he would've really produced and had an opportunity with EB leaving. I can't say I blame him though.

UNM may have its head in the sand but in no way are the exits coming hot and heavy. Everyone expected EB and Mathis to leave this year. If any players recruited last year leave then you may have a point.

i understand it and reconize that coaches are much more free to move around. I just think it's symptomatic of an overall malaise in college sports - basketball & football brought about by an over commercialization & a lack of emphasis on the educational component. I'm not saying we haven't benefited in terms of getting some very good transfers. I'm just venting (and tilting at windmills) against today's version of big time college athletics - certainly not singling out or blaming any particular players.

I hear ya man... College atheletics are getting very impersonal and money/ego driven. I think passionate fans tend to be the biggest losers as loyalty from both coaches and players has gone out the door.

This not the "norm for college ball." That is BS. Neal has had multiple defections every season now for the last few years. Sure it is normal to have a transfer or two once in a while, but not to lose 3+ every year.

That being said, I had already penciled these guys in as transfers. It was pretty obvious. Joe and Anthony spent most of this season in Neal's doghouse. For Brown all you had to do was read between the lines, plus recognize that he wants to go pro, and his best chance at that is with another school.

If we lose any more than these three (say a PG) then things will get really desperate.

This is going to be a rough team next season, but the bar still has to be held high for Neal. You don't get to have 4 rebuilding years in a row and keep your job.

I bet the entire team transfers...and all the recruits do not show...and three coaches leave...does that cover it...

Why would he leave unless its an apparent POSITION.COACHING ISSUES? You were on par to be starter at SG? Unless you hate the coaching, whats that issue?

I think EB may have been too kind in saying that he thanked certain coaches

If younger players don't want to be a part of this, than the administration needs to stop the bleeding.. What will it taken? 6 TRANSFERS?

Joe had Daniel Faris like instincts. It would be sad not to see him battle a player like Luke Nevell.

My week is already ruined.. Years of potential LOST!

It's ridiculous. The Neal experiment did not work. We still have talented players on the roster and fans that want to support the program. Is it gonna take the programming completely blowing up for us to get rid of that hack? Let's cut our losses and move in a positive direction

Anthony Mathis is NOT in line to be the starting 2 guard...that is Damien Jefferson's spot. Per Coach Neal. Anthony has read the tea leaves correctly IMO, he is not going to get a shot.

700 transfers and 351 schools equates to TWO transfers per year, per school, on average.

UNM losing players is nothing new and trying to pin all this on Neal is just piling on. Alford had his share of folks leave, and McKay sure as hell did too. Kids leave all the time and whatever the reason is it is the RIGHT reason for the person leaving.

Criticize CN all you want about wins/losses/piss poor handling of issues in media/player development, but players leaving is not exclusive to UNM and Coach Neal. (if we have MASS defections citing poor treatment by coach, etc, that is another story....)

Yes, players leave all the time. Although, the majority of it happens when coaching changes are made. Coaches want to bring in their players and not have to keep the players the previous coach had. But when a coach recruits a player, and then they leave, this falls more on the coach.
